Dental implants are one of the most effective ways to replace missing teeth. They look and function just like real teeth, are cleaned like normal teeth (unlike other replacement methods) and can even help stimulate the surrounding bone of your jaw, thus preventing the bone loss and change in facial structure associated with dentures. Unfortunately, this treatment isn’t always available to everyone, with bone density problems being the most common barrier. Thankfully, with mini-implants, at Liverpool Dental Spa we are able to provide dental implants to a wider range of people.
What are implants and how mini-implants any different?
Implants are fake teeth which are attached to your jaw, usually by a metal rod. Mini-implants, as the name implies, are just smaller versions of the same thing.
The benefits of mini-implants
Perhaps the greatest benefit of mini-implants is that they offer the benefits of standard implants, but to more people. Traditional implants can also require months of bone fusion before those replacement teeth can be fitted properly. With mini-implants, however, those replacements can be fitted on the same day! The process of fitting mini-implants is also far less invasive than convention implant treatment; gone are the incisions and drilling that can put so many off.
A variety of uses
Other mini-implants can be used for single tooth replacements, they can also be utilised to attach whole sets of teeth; 6 mini-implants, complete with screw tops, can be inserted into your jaw. Dentures can then be attached to, and removed, from these screw tops at your leisure. This is a fantastic way of overcoming the slipping issues associated with dentures, as well as accelerated bone loss: When dentures are worn without stabilised implants, they compress the gingiva and subsequently lessen the supply of blood to the bone. This causes accelerated bone loss. Dentures with mini-implants, thankfully, can stimulate the bone and help prevent this rather undesirable side-effect.
Who is suitable for the mini-implant?
Even though the mini-implant allows a wider range of people to have access to implant treatment, it is still not suitable to everybody. Heavy smoking or drinking may render you unsuitable, as will active gum disease. Come in for a check-up at Liverpool Dental Spa and we can let you know!
