The Wand For Nervous Patients In Central Liverpool

Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013

Most of us suffer a degree of anxiety when sitting in the waiting room of a dental surgery, but for some people, a trip to the dentist is a very scary and nerve-wracking experience and dental phobia can put people off going to the dentist for several years, which puts their oral and general health at risk. At Liverpool Dental Spa we have many years of experience of treating nervous patients and we do all we can to make every patient feel as relaxed as possible. One of our most popular and effective treatments for nervous patients is The Wand.

What is The Wand?

The Wand is a device designed to benefit patients who are nervous about having dental treatment as a result of a fear of pain, needles or injections. The Wand is a painless injection, which works by controlling the flow of anaesthetic through the needle. The Wand is shaped and designed like a pen so that it does not look like a needle and the needle component is hidden to reduce anxiety.

Many people have a fear of needles and injections because they have experienced a painful injection in the past; in most cases, pain from injections results from the flow of the fluid being too fast. If the flow of the fluid is too fast, this causes a sudden, sharp pain. The Wand helps to control the flow, so that it is steady and controlled, without the risk of a sudden, painful burst.

Additional benefits

In addition to preventing painful injections, The Wand also helps to reduce anxiety caused by actually seeing the injection. It also helps to prevent numbness in the lips, cheeks and gums, which can be very uncomfortable and inconvenient after treatment.

The Wand is a really impressive, effective treatment and it can make the treatment process a lot more bearable and tolerable for nervous patients at Liverpool Dental Spa.

The Wand For Dental Phobic Patients In Liverpool

Tuesday, May 28th, 2013

It might not seem like much on paper, but the relief which ‘The wand’ can provide for dental phobic patients can be immeasurable. A fear of the dentists isn’t all that strange, statistics suggest that 7-13% of the western population suffer from some kind of fear of the dentist. The darkly comic image of Steve Martin torturing teeth might seem bad, but it is nothing compared to the horror dental phobia inflicts on its victims. A fear of the dentist means a fear of check-ups, meaning dental problems go unchecked; sadly, fear of the dentist also means fear of surgery. Some people will literally let their teeth rot, just to avoid the pressure of a dental waiting room. Thankfully, with the wand, at least one specific phobia can be eased!

What is the wand?

The wand is a computer controlled injection unit which can regulate the flow of the anaesthetic it is administering.

So… how does this help?

The fear of needles is a massive contributor to the fear of the dentist. One contributor to the fear of needles is the pain of an injection. Painful injections, however, are not caused by the needle itself, they are caused by the speed at which the anaesthetic is administered. By controlling the flow of the anaesthetic, the wand prevents painful injections!

So there is still a needle?

Yes, but it is minute and you won’t feel it. The needle is so small, in fact, that you probably won’t be able to see it. So if the sight of a needle terrifies, don’t worry – you won’t see it!

Is it actually called ‘The Wand’?

Technically it is called the CompuDent and STA (Single Tooth Anesthesia) System, but that isn’t all that catchy. ‘The Wand’ is a nickname derived from its wand-like appearance and it has obviously stuck!

Why don’t more dentists use this?

We ourselves don’t know, we’re too focused on providing the best service we can to find out!

No More Painful Injections With The Wand For Nervous Patients In Liverpool

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Dental phobia can happen to many of us, in all walks of life. Trypanophobia is the rarely used, and overly complicated, title given to a ‘fear of needles’, a fear often stemming from the pain associated with injections. What few people realise, however, is that it is not the needle but the speed at which an injection is administered that can cause pain! Thankfully, with The Wand, we can permanently consign painful injections into the past.

So, what is The Wand?

It is a computer operated injection unit which can control the movement of the anaesthetic being administered, thus preventing the sudden surges which can cause pain. By eliminating human error, the wand can eliminate one of the root causes of needle phobia. Studies have also shown that injection via The Wand is less likely to induce anxiety than other forms of injection. It can also lessen the amount of unneeded numbness which can occur as the result of an anaesthetic and cause so much irritation post-treatment.

Is it really called ‘The Wand’?

Well… It is ‘technically’ called the CompuDent and STA (Single Tooth Anesthesia) System, but that doesn’t quite have the same ring to it now does it? The nickname is probably derived from the look of the unit itself; a needle point wand.

Needle point! So there is still a needle?

Yes, but it is tiny and will not cause any pain. If the mere sight of a needle has you quaking in your boots, then don’t worry; this needle is so small that you probably won’t even notice it.

Why don’t all dentists have this!?

Well, we can’t speak on behalf of others, but, we can assure you that The Wand is primed and ready at Liverpool Dental Spa.

The Wand For Nervous Patients In Liverpool

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

It sounds a bit like magic and even we’re starting to think it is! And its arrival will be welcome news to the many people around the UK who allow their dental anxiety to keep them from receiving the dental attention they need. From a fear of injections to panic at the sound of a drill, dental anxiety is a real problem that needs addressing. So let’s talk about the Wand.

This is a pain-free injection device which has been tailored to stop the surge of injected fluid that actually causes pain for many people. The benefits of the Wand continue long after the initial injection as the device is able to decrease numbness felt in the lips, tongue, cheek and face following its application. The Wand works by slowing the flow of fluid used in an injection. As a result, patients do not feel the nip or sting commonly associated with the needle as it literally takes the pain away.

Dental phobia is one of the most overlooked phobias, affecting one in four adults and a number of children. Fears associated with the dentist are divided into two groups:

  1. Dental Anxiety: A mild fear of the dentist
  2. Dental Phobia: More extreme sense of dread regarding the thought of visiting a dentist.

While the Wand works to address one type of dental fear, the fear of injections, at Liverpool Implant & Aesthetic Dental Spa we know that dental phobias and anxieties can extend beyond this and influence a patient’s fear even further. If you disclose your anxieties and phobias to us, we will work with you to clear away any doubts or stress you are feeling.

We understand that dental anxiety can be so debilitating and lead many people to shun dental procedures. If you fit into this category get in touch with us today. Do not allow your anxiety to force you into compromising your dental health. Contact Liverpool Dental Spa today to make that first step.
