Four Ways to Reduce Snoring in Liverpool

Friday, January 5th, 2018

Snoring is a very common problem. If you live with a snorer or you snore on a regular basis, this can take its toll on your sleep quality and your mood, as well as your relationships with others. If snoring has become a problem in your household, here are 4 ways you can try and banish sleepless nights for good:

  1. Change your sleeping position: many people find that they snore when they sleep on their back, rather than their side. If you do snore, try and alter your position to open up the airways and allow more oxygen to reach your lungs.
  2. Avoid alcohol before bed: if you find that you snore after a night out, this is because alcohol causes the muscles in your throat to relax. Try and avoid drinking anything alcoholic for at least a couple of hours before you go to bed.
  3. Lose weight: in some cases, snoring is linked to being overweight. If you are in the overweight or obese BMI range, losing weight could help to reduce snoring, as well as improving your general health. The best way to go about this mission is to combine regular exercise with healthy eating. We are here to help if you need any advice.
  4. Call and book a consultation: sometimes, the causes of snoring may not be as simple as sleeping on your back or having a beer before bed. If minor changes haven’t made a difference, call us and book a consultation. In some cases, we can intervene by providing you with a customised device, which is used to open up the airway and help you breathe easy. The device helps to open up the airway by moving the lower jaw forward slightly and holding it in this position while you sleep.

How We Can Help You Stop Snoring

Wednesday, April 12th, 2017

Are you kept awake at night by your partner snoring? Do you struggle to remember the last time you had an unbroken night’s sleep? Or are you the snorer desperate to find a solution so that peace and harmony can be restored to the household? If snoring is a problem, we can help.

Why do people snore?

When you snore, the noise that other people hear is made by the soft tissue at the back of the throat vibrating. In many cases, people snore on a temporary basis, and this is often linked to your sleeping position, illnesses like coughs and colds, and allergies. It’s also very common to snore after drinking, as alcohol causes the muscles in the throat to relax. In the long-term, persistent snoring may be linked to being overweight or smoking. Snoring is not the same as sleep apnoea, but people who have sleep apnoea often snore as a result of breathing difficulties.

Solving the snoring problem

Snoring may not affect you, as you may be completely unaware that you do it. But it’s likely to take its toll on anyone you share your room with. If you snore, it can wake your partner up or make it difficult for them to drift off to sleep. Sleepless nights cause irritability, and you may find yourself arguing more than often. We recommend using a specially made bite guard to solve the snoring problem. Bite guards help to adjust the position of the jaw slightly, which opens up the airway when you sleep. This increases oxygen flow, and should stop you from snoring.
