Crowning the Success of Our Restorative Dental Treatments

Friday, July 24th, 2015

Even the healthiest teeth can fall foul to injuries and accidents, but at Liverpool Dental Spa we have a host of restorative options to patch up chips and worn edges, repair fractures and ensure you can smile with confidence again. Our dentists are highly skilled in restorative dentistry and we use only the finest quality materials and the latest techniques to produce amazing results with minimal pain.

Our restorative treatments

We offer a range of restorative treatments to repair damaged and decayed teeth, patch up injuries and replace lost teeth. Our treatment options include:

  • CEREC same-day restorative treatment: we are fortunate to have CEREC technology on-site. This gives us the ability to offer same-day bespoke restorative treatment. With CEREC we can design, manufacture and place new veneers, crowns, inlays and onlays all in one day without having to send impressions away or fit temporary measures. CEREC vastly reduces treatment time and it also makes treatment more convenient for patients with hectic schedules. The process is also cleaner and more accurate than traditional methods.
  • Porcelain crowns: as well as same-day CEREC crowns, we also offer hand-crafted porcelain crowns, which sit on top of the teeth to offer protection and make the tooth more robust. Crowns are recommended when a tooth is broken or decayed and they can also be attached to dental implants as part of a tooth replacement. Porcelain crowns match the shade of healthy natural teeth and last for up to five years.
  • White fillings: fillings are placed when a cavity forms in the surface of the tooth. Cavities are holes often caused by acid erosion of the enamel. Fillings help to stem the spread of infection and white fillings restore the teeth without affecting the way it looks.
  • Dental bridges: bridges are a popular tooth replacement treatment for single gaps. They consist of a false tooth fused to a new crown on either side. Bridges can be made from metals or ceramics and they last up to 15 years. Bridge treatment usually involves two sessions.
  • Dentures: dentures are an effective means of replacing multiple missing teeth. They are sets of false teeth that look like natural teeth and enable you to speak and eat with ease and confidence. Dentures are custom-made and are secured by the natural suction of the gums.
  • Dental implants: implants offer a versatile solution to patients with tooth loss, as they can be used to replace single and multiple missing teeth. Implants are small devices made from titanium and are placed inside small holes in the jaw bone and then attached to a crown, bridge or denture once settled. Implants offer the same standard of stability and functionality as natural tooth roots and are an excellent long-term option.

What Are Implant-Retained Dentures in the Centre of Liverpool?

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014

Implant-retained dentures combine the advantageous aspects of dentures and dental implants and they are an excellent option for patients who have a large number of missing teeth.

Everything you need to know about implant-retained dentures!

With implant-retained dentures, the denture is anchored by dental implants, rather than the suction of the gums and this provides much greater stability. With implants there to hold the denture in place, there is no risk of the denture sliding out of position and this means that you have complete peace of mind, as well as the ability to chew food with force. As there is no chance of the denture coming loose, you can eat whatever you like without any worry at all, so crusty bread and juicy steaks don’t have to be off the menu.

Implant-retained dentures are also much easier to clean and maintain and you don’t have to spend time every day soaking your dentures. This treatment is simple and stress-free; there is no need for denture adhesive and you simply clean your mouth in the normal way.

What does treatment involve?

The first stage of treatment is the planning stage. We will arrange a consultation so that we can talk through the procedures and discuss treatment time. We will also be able to explain how the treatment works and outline the benefits and of course, we will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.

Once planning is complete, the first procedure can take place. This involves placing the dental implants. To do this, a small incision is made in the gum and the gum flap is lifted; the implant is then secured into a pre-drilled hole in the jaw and the gum flap is closed and stitched.

Once the implants have healed, the dentures are placed in position.

If you would like to find out more about implant-retained dentures or our other tooth replacement treatments, don’t hesitate to give us a call today!

We Offer Permanent Solutions For Missing Teeth In Liverpool City Centre

Monday, April 7th, 2014

At Liverpool Dental Spa we offer a range of options for patients with missing teeth, including the amazing implant-retained dentures.

What are implant-retained dentures?

Implant-retained dentures are dentures, which are held in place by dental implants. This treatment combines the best aspects of denture and implant treatment to provide patients with a truly amazing alternative to natural teeth.

Dental implants provide maximum support for the denture, which enables patients to enjoy all the functionality of a healthy set of natural teeth. Gone are the days when having dentures meant you needed to watch you eat or worry about the denture slipping. With implants, there is no risk of a denture coming loose and the implants provide such strong anchorage that you can eat any food you like without any concerns.

The procedure

The first stage of the procedure is to fit the dental implants. This involves making a small incision in the gum and lifting the tissue to access the jaw bone. A small hole is drilled into the bone and this acts as a socket for the new implant. Once the implant is in place, the gum flap is closed and the incision is stitched and left to heal.

Once the implants have integrated into the jaw bone (this is known as osseointegration), the denture can then be connected and your new smile will be complete!

Am I a suitable candidate for implant-retained dentures?

If you have a large number of missing teeth, you have had problems with dentures in the past or you are looking for a long-term, effective solution for missing teeth, implant-retained dentures could be an excellent option. If you’re interested in this treatment, we can talk you through the process, answer any questions and ensure that you are a suitable candidate for treatment during your consultation.

Modern Day Dentures For Patients In The Heart Of Liverpool

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

The word ‘dentures’ instantly makes many people feel uncomfortable, due to the images in movies, which make people conjure up pictures of bulky, obviously false looking teeth, sitting in a glass on a bedside table. The reality is that modern dentures have come a long way and are really impressive appliances; however, if you still have reservations, let us talk to you about implant-retained dentures.

What are implant-retained dentures?

Implant-retained dentures are dentures that are held in place by dental implants. Dental implants are small titanium rods, which are placed inside pre-drilled holes in the jaw bone to replace the root of a missing tooth. The implants are made from titanium, which allows them to integrate into the bone; once this process has taken place, the implant can be connected to a restoration.

Benefits of implant-retained dentures

Many people have reservations about wearing dentures; they worry that their denture will slip and come loose, especially when they are eating and that their denture will look false and unnatural. Implant-retained dentures provide a solution, which gives patients complete peace of mind; as the denture is anchored by dental implants, there is no possibility of it coming loose or moving out of position and modern dentures are very lifelike and natural looking.

As the denture is supported by dentures, the bite power is increased and patients can enjoy a wide range of foods without worrying that their denture will slip while they are chewing or biting down. Dental implants also improve the fit of the denture and they do not irritate the gums or affect the neighbouring teeth.

The procedure

The procedure involves two key stages; during the first session, the implants are placed by making a small incision in the gum and drilling a socket in the jaw bone. The implant is then placed inside the socket and left to integrate in a process called osseointegration. Once the implants have settled, the denture can be attached and you can show off your new smile and start enjoying the benefits of your brand new denture. An Innovative Way To Wear Dentures

Tuesday, October 15th, 2013

Dentures can help restore full missing arches of teeth, but often their functionality is lacking and patients suffer problems with loose dentures while eating and talking. Loose dentures also cause sores within the mouth, which cause further difficulties and discomfort whilst eating.

Dental implants for dentures

However, a new solution has been found, which beats pastes and adhesives down flat. Dental implants are one of the most innovative and effective dental treatments, providing a secure and stable base upon which dentures can sit.

What are dental implants and what can they do for my dentures?

Dental implants are small titanium posts, which are inserted into the jawbone. These posts are then left to fuse and become part of the bone, creating what is essentially a replacement tooth root. 4 to 6 dental implants are used when stabilizing dentures. These are fitted into the jawbone and left to heal, after which a denture can be attached. Dental implants hold the denture in place, preventing all movement and looseness to help you eat, smile and talk with confidence and ease.

How can dental implants improve the health of my mouth?

Loose dentures not only rub against the gums they also rub against the jawbone. This wears away the bones, which is why loose dentures have to be replaced so often, as the wearing of the dentures continually changes the mouth. Dental implants prevent this jawbone erosion and actually strengthen the jawbone, enabling you to use your jaws with full confidence and in turn saving you money, as if well maintain dental implants can last a lifetime.

If you are interested in stabilizing your denture we would be happy to provide you with advice and information, as well as a consultation if you feel the treatment is for you here at Liverpool dental spa.

Get Better Fitting Dentures In Liverpool

Wednesday, September 11th, 2013

Many people have a very negative view when it comes to dentures. They picture badly fitting bulky false teeth which look and feel uncomfortable. But in today’s modern dentistry we can now offer our patients implant retained dentures which offer stability, a permanent solution to missing teeth and dentures which fit perfectly and do not have to be glued into the mouth.

What are implant retained dentures?

Implant retained dentures are the most effective denture method. Dental implants are inserted into the roots of missing teeth where they will heal with the jawbone-this provides an incredibly stable foundation for the dentures. After the implants are placed the dentures can then be securely fixed on to the top f the titanium implants providing patients with a very natural, strong result.

What happens during treatment?

Whilst traditional dentures would rely on the suction from the gums, implant retained dentures are fully supported by the dental implants and work with both full and partial dentures.

The procedure;

  • We cut into the gum and drill into the jawbone area
  • We then place the implants into the holes and stitch the gums so that they can then heal
  • After a period of time when the gums have fully healed and the implants have fused with the jawbone we will add the dentures
  • After this patients are free to continue their normal lives eating and drinking what ever they like

We use local anaesthetic so that treatment is comfortable and patients do not feel pain. Dental phobic patients can discuss other sedation options with us in order to make patients as comfortable as possible. If you are interested in implant retained dentures, contact the team at Liverpool Dental Spa in Liverpool for more information and to arrange your consultation.

What Are Implant Retained Dentures And How Do They Work For Patients In Liverpool?

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

Dentures are one of the oldest forms of tooth replacement. Arguably dating back to 700BC, dentures have been with us for quite some time. They have also, however, come quite some way from being constructed from wood or animal bone. Although modern dentures may look the part, the one thing they haven’t overcome is that dreaded slippage problem and its impact on your speech, eating and confidence. But working in conjunction with dental implants they look and act like a natural tooth.

What are implant retained dentures?

Picture your favourite set of dentures. Now, rather than having them held in place by natural gum suction or that awful adhesive, imagine they are just there. Implant retained dentures are essentially dentures held in place by metal implants!

Standard procedure

The implants will be fitted by making small incisions in your gums and then drilling into your jaw. The implants are then fitted and your gums are left to heal. Once the implants are fully integrated, your denture can be attached and you’ll be ready to smile!

The advantages of implant retained dentures

The most obvious one is the peace of mind that comes from knowing they won’t be slipping. There are few greater ways of knocking one’s confidence at a cocktail party than worrying that your teeth may fall into your drink… Perhaps the greatest advantage, however, is the practical impact that implant retained dentures will have on your speech and eating. You can gorge yourself and talk till the cows come home without ever worrying that they will break or fall out. Implant retained dentures also look incredibly similar to natural teeth, make denture care extremely simple and can even help prevent bone loss. Dentures worn without implants will compress the gingival and lessen blood flow to the bone, thus speeding up bone loss. Implant retained dentures, however, stimulate the surrounding tissue, preventing this and sometimes encouraging bone growth.

Am I suitable?

Sadly, implants aren’t for everyone. If you take care of your teeth and don’t smoke, then you should have nothing to worry about! Regardless, pop in for a chat and we can let you know if you are eligible.

Implant Retained Dentures Treat Liverpool Patient’s Missing Teeth

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

Implant retained dentures are different from traditional dentures in that they are fixed to the gum as opposed to being movable. They are made from high impact acrylic making them hard wearing.

Implant retained dentures are more suitable for those who no longer have any natural teeth but have sufficient bone in the jaw to support the implants. Patients in this situation are known as endentulous.

Traditional dentures rest on the gum without any support.

Advantages of Implant Retained Dentures

There are several advantages to getting a fixed type of denture. For instance, while they are described as fixed, they can be removed when necessary – for cleaning and such like.

While implant retained dentures wear out with age, they are easily replaced at low cost. Similarly, for anyone considering other options, this type of denture costs considerably less than full arch implant bridge restoration.

Moreover, they are cheaper than the ‘All-On-Four’ implant restorations and less troublesome. The latter type of implants can sometimes break down simply because of the forces put upon the implants by chewing and eating.

Implant retained dentures on the other hand absorb these stresses or rather the gum is able to absorb these natural stresses, leaving the implant in place.

Types of Implant Retained Dentures

There are two types currently available. One is called Bar-retained dentures and the other Ball-retained dentures.

The first involves a thin bar of metal being attached to the line of the jaw holding between 2 and 5 implants at once. The denture is slipped over the bar and securely attached by clips.

The ball-retained dentures also called stud-attachment dentures are fixed in place by two different attachments one often referred to as the male attachment; the other the female attachment.
