How we can help you have a relaxing dental appointment

June 19th, 2017

At Liverpool Dental Spa, we know that going to the dentist is not everyone’s idea of a relaxing day out, and this is why we offer a range of services to make your time with us as pleasant as possible. Dental anxiety is very common, and our experienced dental team has training in caring for nervous patients. We also invest in the latest technology and treatments to eliminate pain and enable our patients to feel as calm as possible during their appointment. If you’re anxious about going to the dentist, you’ve come to the right place.

How we can help you to relax

We like to think of our clinic as a soothing oasis in the heart of the city. We have designed our treatment rooms and communal spaces to create a soothing, relaxing vibe, and we encourage you to make yourself at home as soon as you arrive. We will be more than happy to get you a drink, you can watch films, listen to music or read magazines or even treat yourself to a spa treatment. We have a range of spa therapies on offer and we can tailor a package to suit every individual.

Our team is experienced in treating nervous patients, but they don’t just have the skills to provide the best treatment. Our dentists and nurses are also incredibly compassionate, friendly and understanding. If you have any concerns or questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

We offer the latest treatments and we also have sophisticated technology, which enables us to minimise pain and speed up the treatment process. If you have a phobia of needles, for example, we can offer painless injections using an innovative device known as ‘The Wand.’

Sedation dentistry

Many patients feel apprehensive when it comes to the time when they have to have a dental procedure. If you have severe anxiety, we may recommend considering treatment under sedation. Sedation is a technique used widely in medical procedures, and it can also be hugely beneficial in dentistry. Unlike with general anaesthetic, you won’t lose consciousness when you’re sedated. However, you will feel drowsy and you won’t remember much after treatment. When the effects of the sedative become apparent, you won’t feel any pain and your body will feel completely relaxed.

If you’re a nervous patient, we are here to help. Call us today or pop in and have a chat if you’re in Liverpool city centre.

Sore Jaw? See how we can help you in the heart of Liverpool

June 15th, 2017

Do you sometimes wake up with a painful jaw? Does your jaw feel stiff when you yawn or open your mouth? Do you suffer from headaches or pain in your neck or shoulders? If your jaw feels painful, don’t suffer in silence. If you’ve got a sore jaw, we can help you, right here in the heart of Liverpool.

What causes jaw pain?

Jaw pain is often associated with trauma or accidents, but it can also be a symptom of TMJ disorder, also known as TMD. The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull. When you open and close your mouth, if you hold your fingertips at the side of your face under your ear, you’ll feel the joint moving. TMJ disorder is the name given to a group of symptoms that affect this joint. Examples include:

  • Clicking and popping noises when you move your mouth
  • Stiffness in the jaw
  • Jaw pain
  • Restricted range of movement in the jaw joint
  • Headaches
  • Shoulder and neck pain

TMJ disorder can sometimes be a result of bruxism. Bruxism is the medical name for grinding your teeth. When you grind the teeth together, this can cause tension in the muscles around the jaw. Many people grind their teeth without realising, and if you’re waking up with symptoms like those listed above, this may be the cause. Bruxism is sometimes linked to stress and anxiety, but it may also be caused by loose restorations, such as fillings, and orthodontic issues.

What can be done for TMJ disorder?

The treatment path will depend on the underlying cause. If there are problems with the bite that are contributing to bruxism, orthodontic treatment may be recommended. Our dentists can also fix loose fillings or crowns. If there are other causes, we may recommend using a bite guard. A bite guard is a bespoke device, which can be worn during the night. The aim is to prevent the top and bottom arches of teeth from clashing together while you sleep.

Did You Know Liverpool Dental Spa Can Help You Get a Good Night’s Sleep too?

June 12th, 2017

At Liverpool Dental Spa, our team is famed for creating beautiful smiles, but this isn’t our only talent. Our experienced dental team can also help you tackle problems, including snoring. If you’re dreaming of a good night’s sleep, we can help! Whether you’ve been told that you snore or you’re desperate for your partner to get help so that you can enjoy some peace and quiet, we’ll do everything we can.

What causes snoring?

Snoring is very common. When somebody snores, the noises you hear are made by the vibrations of the soft tissue at the back of the mouth. Most commonly, people snore from time to time, usually when they’ve had a drink, they have a cold or they’re sleeping on their back. Intermittent snoring isn’t usually anything to worry about, but frequent snoring may be a sign of underlying issues, and it’s also not ideal for anyone who shares your room. Snoring can make it difficult to get a good night’s sleep, and more than a few days of missing out on good quality sleep can affect your mood, as well as your energy levels and your general health and wellbeing.

If you snore on a regular basis, this may be a result of smoking, being overweight, allergies or anatomical issues that prevent sufficient air flow. Snoring isn’t the same as sleep apnoea, but persistent snoring can be a sign of sleep apnoea.

How we can help

If you snore on a regular basis, it may be possible to reduce snoring by making some changes to your lifestyle. Giving up smoking isn’t easy, but it’s highly likely that it would benefit you if you do snore. It can also be helpful to avoid drinking alcohol in the evenings, to exercise regularly and to try sleeping on your side.

We can also provide our patients with a custom-made appliance, which is designed to increase air flow while you sleep. Using a bite guard prevents snoring by pushing the lower jaw forward slightly. You won’t feel uncomfortable when your bite guard is in position, and it will help you and your partner to sleep better.

If you’re concerned about snoring or you’re keen to restore peace at home, why not call us and book an appointment today?

Refresh Your Face: Botox vs Dermal Fillers

June 8th, 2017

None of us want to look older than we feel. If your skin is sagging or you can’t stop staring at your laughter lines every time you look in the mirror, maybe it’s time to refresh your face. With our incredible non-invasive facial aesthetic treatments, we can roll back the years without the need for surgery.

We are proud to offer anti-ageing solutions, including Botox and dermal fillers.

Botox

Botox is a form of treatment, which reduces the visibility of lines and wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles. It does this by blocking the transmission of nerve signals to the facial muscles. When the muscles relax, the skin softens, and this causes your complexion to look smother and more youthful. Botox is used to target specific areas of the face, and the aim is to create a natural look. Botox won’t make you look you’re 20 if you’re 50, but it can have an incredibly positive impact on your looks and your confidence if you’re conscious about your skin. Botox is injected into the skin using a very fine needle, and the effects of treatment tend to develop after 24-36 hours. This isn’t a permanent solution, but the results last up to 6 months. After we have planned treatment, the procedure can usually be completed in just 15-30 minutes.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are an increasingly popular anti-ageing remedy. They soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles by adding volume to the skin. When you get older, the body’s collagen stores become depleted, and this affects the firmness and elasticity of the skin. Fillers help to combat the reduction of collagen, giving your skin more bounce and vibrancy. We can also use fillers to define your best features, such as the jaw line and the cheekbones and even to add fullness to your lips. Like Botox dermal fillers don’t produce permanent results, but the effects should be visible for up to 9 months. Treatment is very simple, and involves using a fine needle to inject filler into targeted sites. Before treatment, you’ll have a consultation to check that you’re a suitable candidate for treatment, find out more about what treatment entails and prepare for the procedure. Filler treatment only takes around 20 minutes.

Five Foods that Make a Tooth-Friendly Summer Dinner

June 5th, 2017

It’s summer, and many of us are looking forward to embracing those classic seasonal staples. When you’re planning your summer menu, take a moment to consider how your diet affects your teeth and gums. If you’re hoping to eat well and keep your smile in check, here are five tooth-friendly foods to include in your summer diet:

  1. Strawberries: strawberries are not just packed with vitamin C, which is good for boosting your immunity. They’re also natural stain removers. The rough skin of the strawberry removes surface stains, giving your smile a gorgeous healthy glow.
  2. Raw vegetables: if you’re looking for healthy picnic ideas, look no further than some chopped carrots, cucumber sticks and celery batons. Raw vegetables have high water content, which is good for cleansing the mouth, and when you chew, this also stimulates the gums.
  3. Salad leaves: salad leaves contain water and they’re also rich in fibre, vitamins and nutrients. If you’re eating acidic foods, foods that have high water content can help to neutralise acids.
  4. Cheese: cheese is a staple when it comes to preparing vegetarian barbeque dishes and it can also be added to cold pasta dishes and salads. A cheeseboard is also a popular alternative to sweet desserts. Cheese is a good source of calcium, and it also has high pH value. It’s a great idea to combine wine with cheese if you’re enjoying a drink in the evening, as this will help to neutralise acids in the mouth.
  5. Natural yoghurt: are you looking for a healthier alternative to summer puddings like ice cream, meringues and cheesecake? If so, consider filling a bowl full of natural yoghurt and then adding a spoonful of honey or a sprinkling of raspberries, blueberries and strawberries.

Which Teeth Whitening Technique is Best for You? Three Brands Compared

June 1st, 2017

The summer is finally here, and what better time to show off a sparkling white smile? If you’re keen on finding out more about tooth whitening treatment this summer, here is some information you may find useful about our incredible treatments on offer right here in the heart of Liverpool.

Wy10

Wy10 is a rapid whitening system, which is often recommended for patients who have sensitive teeth. Wy10 uses a very pure whitening agent to brighten and lighten the tooth enamel without causing sensitivity. Layer of Wy10 gel are applied to the teeth and the agent is activated using a light source. You can also use portable Wy10 lamps if you want to top up your treatment. Wy10 is a simple, safe and convenient whitening treatment, which is suitable for most patients.

Zoom! Whitening

Zoom! whitening is a powerful professional whitening treatment, which takes just an hour to lighten the teeth by several shades. Before you have treatment, your dentist will examine your teeth to make sure that you’re a suitable candidate for treatment. If you are keen to go ahead, your dentist will apply the Zoom! whitening agent to your teeth, ask you to pop some protective goggles on and then shine a light onto the teeth. You shouldn’t feel any pain during the session and you can lie back and relax. After one hour, you’ll be done, and we can show you your radiant new smile!

Enlighten

If you’re after impressive results that will last for a long time, Enlighten may be the best option for you. Enlighten is currently the only treatment available in the UK that is capable of achieving shade B1, the lightest tooth shade. Enlighten treatment involves a power-whitening session like Wy10 and Zoom! but the process is different, as this session follows 14 days of home treatment. We provide you with custom-made whitening trays, which are worn for around 6 hours per day at home. The trays are designed to fit perfectly, and you can wear them at any time of day, depending on your schedule. On the 15th day, you’ll have your in-chair treatment and then you can start showing off that stunning white smile.

Which route to Straight Teeth is Right for You?

May 31st, 2017

At Liverpool Dental Spa, we recognise the importance of giving our patients a choice and we are delighted to offer a vast array of orthodontic solutions. Whether you have minor misalignment or you need complex treatment, we have the perfect treatment options for you.

Our treatments

We offer a range of treatments, including removable braces, invisible braces, fixed braces and lingual braces.

Removable braces

Our removable braces include Invisalign, ClearStep, Perfect Clear and the Inman Aligner. ClearStep, Invisalign and Perfect Clear operate in a similar way, with patients wearing a series of customised clear aligners, which gently guide the teeth into position. The aligners are virtually invisible, so this could be a good choice if you’re looking for an invisible brace and you have minor orthodontic issues. The Inman Aligner is slightly different. The treatment process involves using a single device, rather than a series of appliances, and the aligner isn’t invisible. That said, it is a lot more discreet than most other braces out there. This is an ideal solution for anyone who needs results fast, as it takes just 16 weeks to correct minor misalignment.

Fixed braces

Fixed braces have come a very long way in a relatively short space of time, and if you thought you had to wear painful, bulky metal braces for months on end to get a gorgeous smile, you’ll be shocked to see the new braces on the block. With treatments like Six Month Smiles and CFast, we can straighten the teeth quickly and discreetly. We are also proud to offer Damon Braces. These advanced braces use the latest friction-free technology to move the teeth painlessly, and they are capable of treating patients with the most complex prescriptions. The braces are finer and more discreet than conventional fixed braces and treatment times are around 4-6 months shorter.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces may be an option worth considering if you’re desperate to have braces without anyone else knowing that you’re having treatment. Unlike standard fixed braces, these braces are fixed to the back of your teeth, which means that nobody will be able to see them when you smile. We offer a system called MTM No Trace Brace, which is a fast-acting, invisible solution for patients who have issues that affect the front teeth. The average treatment time is just 12-24 weeks.

How Lumineers veneers can illuminate your smile

May 29th, 2017

Do you dream of a radiant smile that will light up the room? If you’re hoping for a sensational summer smile, Lumineers veneers could be just the ticket.

What are Lumineers and why are they so special?

Lumineers are lightweight veneers, which are made from a patented ceramic material known as Cerinate porcelain. Although Lumineers are incredibly thin and light, they are also very strong and they can usually last up to 20 years.

Veneers are a very versatile treatment and they really are capable of transforming the look of your smile. Even if you have worn, chipped or stained teeth, you can enjoy a stunning, natural looking new smile with Lumineers. Lumineers can also be used to hide gaps between the teeth and offer an alternative to braces if the teeth are slightly misaligned.

Lumineers are different to standard porcelain veneers because they are lighter, but they are also stronger. As Lumineers are so thin, minimal tooth preparation is required before the veneers are fitted, and this means that the tooth structure can be preserved. Lumineers also last longer than most other types of veneer.

How long does Lumineer treatment take?

We are usually able to complete Lumineer treatment in just 2 sessions which usually take place 2-3 weeks apart. During the first session, we’ll plan your treatment and create impressions of your teeth. We’ll also talk to you about the treatment in more detail, and of course, we’ll be happy to answer any questions. During the second session, we’ll fit your new veneers, secure them with strong dental adhesive, and show you your brand new smile.

Did you know we treat Tooth Decay in the heart of Liverpool?

May 24th, 2017

Dental decay is one of the most common preventable illnesses among children and adults in the UK. If you have cavities, we are here to help. We provide first-class standards of treatment in the heart of Liverpool.

What causes decay?

Decay is caused by harmful oral bacteria, which release acids that weaken and wear away the protective enamel surface of the tooth. Once the surface is thin, there is a risk of holes (cavities) forming and bacteria can penetrate the tooth. Decay is often associated with poor oral hygiene, but your diet also plays a very important role. If you eat a lot of sugary or acidic foods, your risk of developing cavities will be high.

Treating tooth decay

If you have toothache, your teeth are sensitive or it hurts when you bite down, you may have a cavity. The most common treatment for cavities is a filling. The aim of the procedure is to fill the cavity to make the tooth stronger and prevent infection from spreading to other parts of the tooth. Fillings are usually made from dental composite; this is known as a white filling.

If your tooth is infected, and the infection has reached the pulp chamber, which contains the nerves and blood vessels, you may be advised to have root canal treatment.

Preventing tooth decay

The best way to look at oral health is to embrace the notion that prevention is better than cure. The best ways to prevent tooth decay are to:

  • Stick to a good daily oral hygiene regime
  • See your dentist every 6-9 months
  • Moderate your intake of sugar
  • Avoid snacking between meals

Call us today to find out more about tooth decay treatment and prevention in Liverpool city centre.

Which Invisible Brace is Right For You?

May 22nd, 2017

Are you interested in braces? Are you looking for something discreet that will enable you to undergo treatment in secret? If so, here is a guide to our incredible invisible braces:

Removable braces

We are proud to offer an extensive selection of clear removable braces that includes Invisalign, ClearStep and Perfect Clear. These systems all utilise transparent aligners, which look very similar to mouth guards, to straighten the teeth. When the aligners are in position, they are virtually undetectable. Removable braces are usually recommended for patients with minor or moderate needs, as they cannot generate as much movement as fixed braces. The beauty of removable braces is that they enable you to get on with life as normal. You don’t have to worry about eating in public or trying to keep your teeth clean, as you can take your braces out when you eat and brush your teeth.

Fixed braces

You may assume that it’s impossible to get a discreet fixed brace, but you’d be wrong! With treatments like CFast and Six Month Smiles, we can straighten your teeth discreetly. Fixed braces may be advantageous for some patients because they provide more support than removable braces. Both these treatments have an average treatment time of just 6 months.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are fixed braces, but there’s a major difference between lingual braces and conventional braces: lingual braces are attached to the back of the teeth, making them invisible to others. We offer MTM No Trace braces, which sit behind the teeth, enabling you to have treatment without anybody knowing. MTM No Trace braces produce results in just 12-24 weeks.

If you like the sound of invisible orthodontic treatment, call us and book a consultation today. We can discuss your options, and help you choose which treatment is best for you.
