Good Dental Hygiene Techniques

March 22nd, 2011

The best way to maintain healthy teeth and a great smile is to practice good dental hygiene. So, for great spring cleaning to get those winter time cobwebs out of your mouth, here are some great tips to get your smile ready to rock:

1. Brushing: Make sure you brush your teeth after each meal
2. Daily dental routine: Get into a routine of brushing and flossing your teeth daily. Make sure you brush your teeth at least twice a day. A good time to brush your teeth is in the morning and at night
3. Flossing: Make sure to floss at least once a day
4. Effective toothbrushes that get positive results: The best type of toothbrush to use is a soft, rounded toothbrush that is not to big because you want to make sure that you brush all areas of your teeth and mouth
5. Get rid of the old and bring in the new: Remember to replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months
6. Electronic toothbrushes: You can use an electric toothbrush if you prefer. Research suggests that powered toothbrushes with a rotating brush that moves back-and-forth are better to use than other types of toothbrushes. As an insurance company, we would prefer everyone to be using the best toothbrush they can afford
7. Use fluoride: Always brush with toothpaste that contains fluoride. Toothpaste that contains tarter control is good toothpaste to purchase because tarter control toothpaste will help slow down any mineral buildup developing on your teeth.
8. Hold your toothbrush the right way: When you brush try holding your toothbrush in a position that will not only brush your teeth, but brush the gums well too. While you brush your teeth, move the brush back and forth brushing your teeth in a circular motion. Brush softly not hard, because you can make hurt your gums and damage your tooth enamel.
9. Brush your entire mouth not just your teeth: Brush all tongue and the surfaces of your cheek. Make sure you brush your front and back teeth the best.
10. Cleaning your tongue is just as important as cleaning your teeth: Brush your tongue after you brush your teeth. Brushing your tongue helps remove plaque, which can cause your breath to smell bad and you, can also develop bacteria in your mouth if you do not brush your tongue along with your teeth.

Spring cleaning helps make all things new again. Give your smile a chance to do the same. You’ll be glad you did. And your family, friends, and co-workers will all appreciate how great you look.

At the Liverpool Dental Spa we don’t just look after implants and veneers or whiten your teeth. Our commitment is to enable you to have the best smile possible for as long as possible.

Time for a Spring Clean

March 21st, 2011

It’s time to get clean. If you’ve been hunkered down for the winter, get ready to start your spring cleaning. Now is the time to sweep out the cobwebs!

Now that all that snow and cold weather has moved on and the warmer weather is starting to arrive, you can feel refreshed. Your house should reflect an invigorated spirit for spring, and you’ll feel much better about how clean everything looks and feels.

If you have been taking care of your teeth and gums in the winter months, it’s now time to go and see your favourite dental practitioner for a spring cleaning for your smile.

At least twice a year it is recommended by most all dentists to go and get a check-up, and now is the perfect time before your year gets too far along. If you’re social season is starting to get busy and are looking at plans for a summer holiday, now is the time for a dental cleaning and check-up before you get too busy.

Here at the Liverpool Dental Spa we can offer a same day clean serve whereby you can book your check-up and cleaning on the same day. Please ask for details.

Older women need more dental check ups

March 15th, 2011

After a recent study by the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine showing the comparisons between woman who are on and off  therapies for osteoporosis, it is understood that women should increase the number of times they have a dental check up in a year once they’ve undergone the menopause.

The woman who took part in the study were aged between 51 and 80. They all received cone beam CT scans of their jaws and had a complete periodontal check for bleeding of the gums and loss of bone attachment around the teeth

Researches did find that there was a increased level of plaque (which causes gum disease) for both of the groups. Menopausal women at risk for osteoporosis also are at risk for periodontal disease, which affects bone that anchors teeth.

These results would suggest that women may need to see the dentist as many as four times a year to control dental plaque by periodontal cleanings.

Here at the Liverpool Dental Spa we have packages specifically tailored for people who need to see the dentist or therapist more often than most

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns over this paper or wish to find out more.

Find your Smile Factor like Cheryl Cole

March 14th, 2011

This year’s theme for National Smile Month (16th May – 16th June) is The Smile Factor.

Every year the aim of these campaigns is to put the smile back on people’s faces and this year The Smile factor will be a great way to help people display their glowing personalities.

Here at the Liverpool Dental Spa we will be having a group of special offers to support National Smile Month so keep posted to see what is happening.

We will also be raising people’s understanding that a healthy diet is linked between good oral health and a greater overall general health like they have been doing in previous years. There promotion will consist of three key messages

  • Brushing for two minutes twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
  • Cutting down on the amount of sugary drinks and foods in your diet.
  • Keeping up with regular visits to your dentist and hygienist.

‘A smile can be a very powerful show of emotion, yet not everyone has the confidence to do so.

‘They say you can hide behind a smile if you are not happy or are self-conscious about your teeth, so many people are missing out on showing their very own ‘Smile Factor’.

‘Others are being held back by poor oral wellbeing and its impact on their general health. This year’s campaign is designed to challenge those perceptions and get you smiling again.’

Thousands are dodging the dentist

February 18th, 2011

Sixty eight per cent of dentists said their patients were deferring treatment and 59 per cent reported cancelled appointments.

The poll of 251 dentists in England, for the British Dental Association (BDA), found the knock-on effect was a clear rise in the numbers needing emergency treatment.

More than a third (34 per cent) of practitioners questioned in October and November said they had seen increased demand for emergency treatment over the previous 12 months.

Dental check-ups often reveal more serious underlying health problems than simple gum disease.

Some dental diseases are closely linked to many serious health conditions including heart disease, arthritis and diabetes.

‘It’s understandable that, at a time when there is widespread concern about household finances, some patients’ financial anxieties are leading them to defer dental appointments and treatment,’ said Susie Sanderson, of the BDA.

‘Achieving short-term money savings at the expense of longer-term health problems isn’t wise, though.

‘Neglecting your oral health can increase both the complexity of the problems you face and the cost of the treatment you must eventually have.’
