Adult Patients in Liverpool Looking for Invisible Tooth Straightening Should Look No Further Than Invisalign

May 20th, 2012

Braces have greatly advanced in recent years and patients are now able to receive orthodontic treatment without the need for fixed and visible metal braces.

At the Liverpool Implant and Aesthetic Dental Spa we provide patients from Liverpool with a range of invisible aligners, which includes the amazing Invisalign treatment.

What is Invisalign and how does it work?

Invisalign treatment involves the patient gradually straightening their teeth using a series of clear aligners that remain unnoticed in the mouth. These aligners are changed every 2 weeks to a new aligner, which is shaped differently to the previously aligner. This change in shape between each aligner gently and effectively moves the teeth into place.

Your aligners are created using a personal mould of your mouth, which is sent off to the Invisalign laboratories where your specific Invisalign aligners will be made.

Who is suitable for Invisalign?

Most orthodontic conditions can be treated using invisalign braces, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Overbitten teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Twisted teeth

However, if you suffer with a complex orthodontic condition you may be best seeking treatment with fixed braces, which are able to achieve a higher level of tooth movement.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

There are numerous benefits to Invisalign aligners, which includes:

  • They are comprised of clear plastic, so no one will know that you are having orthodontic treatment.
  • They are removable, meaning you can eat comfortably and they are easier to clean.
  • You don’t need to have any dental appliances cemented to the front of your teeth.

If you are interested in Invisalign clear braces please feel free to ring the practice today. We can thoroughly assess your orthodontic condition and find the best brace system for you.

Lumineers the Long-Lasting Tooth Veneer for Patients in Liverpool

May 17th, 2012

There are numerous brands of veneers available from cosmetic dental practices, but there are only a select few that offer both an outstanding transformation and long-lasting results.

What is different about Lumineers?

Lumineers are incredibly thin veneers, often referred to as the ‘contact lenses’ of the veneer world. However, these veneers are not only small they are incredibly strong, using the finest materials and the most advanced techniques to create a restoration that looks exactly like a natural tooth that can last 20 years or more.

Lumineers also require very little in the way of tooth restoration, meaning the natural tooth structure underneath will be maintained. Usually when fitting a veneer a large portion of the tooth must be shaved away, which can create a difficult situation if you want to remove your veneers or change them. With Lumineers this isn’t a problem and the treatment is completely reversible.

What can Lumineers treat?

Lumineers are an almost instant treatment for a number of cosmetic problems including:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Stained teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Crooked teeth

How are Lumineers fitted?

Lumineers only require two visits:

1)   You are examined by a dentist who will tell you if you are suitable for Lumineers. You will then have impressions taken of your teeth and will decide your ideal tooth shade. This information will then be sent to the specialist dental lab, who will create you new teeth.

2)   Your Lumineers are created and you return to the practice and have your Lumineers fitted.

Lumineers are only available from a small number of UK practices who are registered with the Cerinate Smile Design Studio. Liverpool Implant and Aesthetic Dental Spa are one such UK practice, able to provide this service for all their patients who are suitable for Lumineers.

Patients in Liverpool are Experiencing the Amazing Facial Transformation of Restylane and Botox

May 14th, 2012

Dental practices are now able to transform your face as well as your smile for a truly amazing makeover.

Two of the treatments we provide at the practice are Restylane Dermal Fillers, which can plump and enhance tired and sagging skin, and Botox for the treatment of lines and wrinkles.

What is Restylane and how does it work?

Restylane uses naturally occurring hyaluronic acid to add volume to the face and boost your overall appearance. Restylane is injected using a fine needle and can be used to improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles near the eyes.
  • Deep creases at the corner of the mouth.
  • Deep folds running from the nose to the mouth.
  • Thin lips.
  • Sunken cheeks.

Patients throughout Liverpool are experiencing the effective results of Restylane, which means they do not need to undergo invasive plastic surgery. Similar results can be achieved, which can last for up to year before they need to be repeated.

What is Botox and how does it rejuvenate my face?

Botox, like Restylane, is administered using a small needle, addressing numerous areas including around the mouth, in the corner of the eye and across the forehead. Botox effectively stops the muscle that form lines and wrinkles and smoothes and rejuvenates the appearance of the face.

The effects of Botox last several months, after which it is easy to restore the results with another Botox session.

Patients who receive Botox treatment experience their transformation a few days after the procedure, with a face that is rejuvenated and enhanced.

If you would like any more information on the practice’s facial aesthetic treatments please call today, we will be more than happy to answer any questions.

Detecting and Treating Even the Smallest Instance of Tooth Decay for Patients in Liverpool

May 10th, 2012

Tooth decay is a silent problem, creeping up on the teeth gradually, never revealing itself until it has caused lasting damage and persistent pain.

However, at Liverpool Implant and Aesthetic Dental Spa we can spot and treat even the tiniest bit of decay during a routine check-up.

How we can spot and treat tooth decay

The early stages of tooth decay are usually unnoticeable and they cause no pain. However, we use magnification during our dental check-ups to pin-point evening the smallest instance of decay and fill it before it can spread and become a cavity.

We can also use dental x-rays to explore the inside of a tooth if we feel it may be infected.

How does tooth decay occur?

The start of decay may begin with a mild rise in the level of sugar you consume or a decline if the amount of time you spend on your dental hygiene, whatever the root cause tooth decay generally occurs for the same reason each time-dental bacteria creates plaque, which eats away first at the enamel, then the dentin before reaching the dental chamber inside the tooth and infecting the pulp and tissue inside.

Once this infection has entered the tooth the pain begins and sadly it may be too late to save the tooth. The dental pulp inside a tooth is what keeps it alive, so once this has become infected the tooth is technically dead. Treatments such as root canal therapy can be used to clean and sterilise the tooth, after which a crown will be placed over the damaged tooth to restore its strength, but it will never match the strength of a natural tooth.

During our dental check-ups we locate the very early signs of decay to stop this from happening and prevent you from loosing your teeth, for beautiful and healthy smiles.

Fixed Braces can Help Patients in Liverpool with Severely Crooked Teeth Smile Again

May 6th, 2012

Many of today’s braces promise clear, invisible correction of orthodontic problems, which is an excellent advancement for patients looking for discreet brace treatment.

However, nothing quite beats the effective tooth movement of fixed braces and for patients in Liverpool with severe orthodontic problems a fixed brace may be the answer to all your tooth problems.

Why are fixed braces better at moving teeth?

Because fixed braces are fixed to the teeth throughout your treatment they provide a level of movement removable aligners are unable to mimic. Using a wire to create pressure is also a lot more effective than relying on plastic aligners and tooth movement is often a lot faster with traditional fixed braces.

Fixed braces are also better equipped to treat complex orthodontic problems, which may involve two conditions, such as an overbite coupled with crooked front teeth.

Have fixed braces changed?

Thankfully fixed braces have moved on from the hulking mass of metal they once were and at the practice we use systems such as Damon Braces and Six Month Smiles, which use discreet and even tooth coloured wires and brackets, which are a lot smaller in size than those used with older fixed brace models.

What are the main benefits of fixed braces?

There are numerous benefits of using fixed braces to straighten your teeth, which includes:

  • Shorter treatment times.
  • The ability to treat even complex orthodontic cases.
  • Not only is the appearance of the mouth corrected, but also the function, improving your eating, speaking and smiling abilities.
  • Some people feel that even their overall facial appearance is improved, with a greater sense of symmetry.

If you are concerned about the appearance of your smile and would like some advice on treatment please feel free to called the practice and we can help you choose the right brace for you and your condition.

Patients in Liverpool with Loose Dentures can Experience a Stronger Smile with Dental Implants

May 1st, 2012

Patients in Liverpool with ill-fitting or loose dentures may suffer with a daily struggle when eating, speaking and even smiling. Loose dentures can cause a host of problems including bone degeneration due to the continual wearing down of the supporting bone tissue. This wear is what causes dentures to become even looser and many patients will go through a number of dentures during their lifetime to maintain some kind of function.

What can be done about loose dentures?

However, with dental implant stabilised dentures patients can experience a solid and strong smile again, meaning they can eat what they want and never fear the embarrassment of dentures falling out of their mouth.

What does the dental implant treatment involve?

Implants are fitted into your jawbone in specific areas, which provide the best support from your denture. The titanium posts are then left to fuse with your jawbone, to ensure that you have a strong, secure foundation for your denture. Once your implants have integrated with your jawbone your denture can be fitted into place, for a strong, stable smile.

What are the main benefits of dental implant stabilised dentures?

Patients with stabilised dentures can experience many benefits, including:

  • A strong set of teeth they can use to eat anything, meaning their diet doesn’t suffer because of their teeth.
  • Teeth that remain within the mouth, never falling out and causing your embarrassment.
  • Strong and healthy jawbone tissue, which is strengthened rather than worn away.
  • Long-lasting smiles, with dental implants lasting for many years, if not a lifetime, if they are well maintained.

If you would like more information on stabilising your dentures using dental implants please call the practice today, we will be happy to hear from you.

ClearStep is the Clear Choice for Patients in Liverpool Looking for Invisible Braces

April 27th, 2012

Noticeable metal braces are often associated with teenage orthodontics, but unfortunately, crooked teeth do not always discriminate on age and a more discreet alternative to ‘train tracks’ may be preferable to people past their teenage years. For those people ClearStep may be their best option, to straighten their teeth without anyone else realising they are undergoing orthodontic treatment.

ClearStep are virtually unnoticeable clear braces, which can help you achieve a naturally straight smile while remaining completely unnoticed. As well as the obvious cosmetic benefit, ClearStep can also provide a more comfortable experience than metal braces, which can inflame and irritate the gums, as well as a more convenient one, as you can take them off when you eat, meaning no food will become trapped.  The ability to remove ClearStep also helps maintain excellent oral hygiene during treatment, something that can be neglected with metal braces, often leading to future dental health problems.

Your ClearStep treatment starts with a consultation, to ascertain whether the ClearStep treatment is suitable for you. The majority of orthodontic issues can be treated using ClearStep, however, if the treatment isn’t for you we will find another solution to your problem.

If you are deemed suitable a mould of your mouth will then be taken, as will several photographs, which will then be turned into a 3D model of your mouth. Your personal clear aligners will be produced based on this model, which you will then pick up from the practice. These aligners are then changed every two weeks in order to gradually move your teeth into a straight and beautiful smile.

ClearStep braces have revolutionised the way adults straighten their teeth and eliminate all need for thick noticeable wires and uncomfortable brackets.

Liverpool Patients with a Gap in Their Smile can Find the Treatment they need with a Dental Bridge

April 25th, 2012

Losing a tooth is never a pleasant experience and the effects of the tooth loss can, however, go way beyond the cosmetic: Your speech, your bite and even the shape of your face can be significantly altered by the loss of a tooth! Not to mention the increased risk of gum disease.

The three types of Dental Bridge

This is where dental bridges come in: Bridges are essentially false teeth that are anchored onto the neighbouring teeth in order to hold them in place. Dental bridges come in three types: The traditional fixed bridge (the most common type), the resin-bonded or ‘Maryland’-bonded bridge and the cantilever bridge.

Which bridge is most appropriate tends to be determined by the health of the surrounding teeth and the size of your gap. Cantilever bridges, for example, are best used when there is a healthy tooth on only one side of the gap. This bridge is anchored to only one tooth, on one side, and so is best used on ‘low stress’ areas, such as the front teeth.

Fixed bridges, the popular ones, can be used anywhere but require crowns to be attached to the teeth on each side of the gap. The resin bonded bridges, however, do not require crowns on the surrounding teeth, which can be handy when these teeth are perfectly healthy. These types of bridge, like the cantilevers, are best suited to areas, such as the front teeth, as there is less stress upon the teeth.

Bridges generally last up to 15 years, but this requires a good oral hygiene routine, which you must use daily, to ensure the longevity of your dental bridge.

Come and ask

If you have any queries, make sure to book a consultation with a Liverpool dentist! We will be more than happy to talk you through the variety of bridges available and which would be best for you.

Celebrate St George’s Day in Liverpool with a Straighter, Brighter Smile with Porcelain Veneers

April 23rd, 2012

The 23rd of April is not just St. George’s day, it also the birthday (and confirmed day of death) of one William Shakespeare: Arguably the greatest writer in the English language and the bane of many a student’s schooldays. Whether you decide to spend the day reciting King Lear among friends or, more likely, laughing with them at the pub, you will be using that mouth quite a bit, and it’s quite hard to feel “St. George inspire us with the spleen of fiery dragons” when you’re feeling self-conscious about your smile…

What are dental veneers?

Often viewed as the mouth’s equivalent of false nails, dental veneers are wafer thin shells of material, which are bonded to the front of the teeth and can offer a considerable amount of cosmetic relief for people suffering with certain aesthetic ailments, such as: Broken or damaged teeth, gaps between teeth and, to an extent, crooked teeth. Veneers come in two forms:  Porcelain and composite. Composite veneers are cheaper than their porcelain counterparts, but Porcelain veneers are more effective in every other respect and can last five or even ten times longer than composites, meaning they often work out cheaper in the long run.

Procedural info

The success of porcelain veneers has led to a popular idea of ‘swish walk-in dental clinics’ providing a perfect pearly white smile in the span of a lunchtime break. Although a few clinics have invested in ‘CEREC’ technology which allows for such swift production, most procedures will require at least two visits. A typical procedure would require an initial consultation followed by a mild reshaping your teeth in preparation for the veneers (a small amount would be shaved off, but just enough to accommodate the veneers). A mould would then be taken of your teeth which would be used to produce the veneers. These would then be fitted at a subsequent session.

Consultation

There are many different brands of veneer, so, if you’re interested, book an appointment and we can start work on a dental treatment plan for you.

Celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday in Liverpool with a Royally White Smile

April 20th, 2012

The Queen’s birthday and her diamond jubilee are nearly upon us, so we can perhaps expect, and maybe even excuse, a little national pride. If the festivities happen to take you through Britain’s colourful culinary history, or even just lead to an increased tea intake, then your teeth might pick up a few celebratory stains… and you wouldn’t want less than pearly whites for the Queen, would you?

Vital or non-vital?

For anyone suffering from less than pearly whites, there are essentially two types of procedure available to you: Vital and non-vital. Vital bleaching is used when staining and discolouration has occurred solely on the enamel of the tooth. The treatment can cause hypersensitivity and gum irritation, but these side-effects will only be temporary. Non-vital whitening is for blemished teeth that have undergone root canal surgery (root canal treatments can darken over time).  Non-vital treatment is sometimes called ‘inside/outside whitening’ as the cleaning formulation is placed inside the tooth and it cleans from the inside out!

Home or away?

Non –vital whitening must be performed in the clinic, but vital whitening can be done at home. Having the procedure performed at the practice will allow your dentist to use a more powerful whitening formula and treatment will usually last between 30 and 90 minutes. Completion of the treatment will require between one and three visits. The home procedure will require your dentist to make a mouthpiece from impressions of your upper and lower teeth.  Once home, you would be required to fill the mouthpiece with the whitening formula provided and wear it for several hours a day. Many people achieve their desired degree of whitening after a week or two, but some may be required to wear the mouthpiece for a month or longer.

Come talk to us

There are a myriad of tooth whitening products available and it is best to ensure that the product and procedure suit the patient. So, before choosing a product or procedure, make sure to book a consultation with a Liverpool cosmetic dentist!
