Dealing With Broken Teeth At Liverpool Dental Spa

April 1st, 2013

Teeth go through a lot of strain throughout your lifetime. At some stage, you’re going to end up with imperfections from sporting incidents, accidents or simply biting down on hard foods. Whether that may be chips or cracks, broken teeth are always a hassle. So what’s next? You walk around covering your smile with your hand for the rest of your life? Or you find out about new innovative techniques that can fix your broken teeth in a matter of treatments.

In some cases, you may need dental veneers, which are like fake nails for your teeth or dental implants if the tooth is beyond repair. However, if not, composite bonding may be able to fix the problem. This tooth coloured bonding substance is used almost like a filler to fill in any cracks or replace missing parts to your tooth.

Composite bonding treatment

At Liverpool Dental Spa in the heart of Liverpool, the tooth is assessed for damage so that we can get a good idea of what we are dealing with. Following this, dental bonding is applied to the tooth to fill in any cracks or chips. This is then polished with dentistry equipment to make sure that all the gaps are filled in and the surface is as smooth as possible.  Pretty much any crack, chip or dent can be fixed in this manner so the majority of minor dental cases benefit from this hassle-free procedure.

A huge advantage of composite bonding is that its matches the natural colour of your tooth so once the treatment is complete, you won’t even be able to tell there was a problem in the first place. Although they may not last as long as porcelain veneers, composite bonding offers a pain free treatment that gives you quick results and fixes any imperfections in your smile.

Clear Orthodontics At Liverpool Dental Spa

March 22nd, 2013

Braces get a bad rep. There’s no denying it; it isn’t pleasant, but they do. The logic behind this seems to have gone under the same intellectual rigour as the writing process behind a reality TV programme but, until braces have shaken their cultural shackles, it is understandable that you may demand a little discretion in your orthodontic treatment. Thankfully, as we don’t live in a 1980’s teen comedy, it is possible to have nigh-on invisible brace treatment!

What are Perfect Clear braces?

Perfect Clear is a series of clear plastic aligner which will gradually move your teeth into their desired position.

The advantages of Perfect Clear

First and foremost, they are pretty much invisible. Perhaps the most obvious selling point of clear braces is that no one need know that you are wearing them. There are, however, several other practical advantages which Perfect Clear provides alongside its aesthetic benefits. The most important, perhaps, being that they are removable. No longer will your teeth require special cleaning techniques to work around fixed wire; this is not convenient, but it also helps to keep your teeth free from the plaque and debris which can pile up in hard to reach places. You will also be able to eat without fear of breaking your brace as you can take it out whilst doing so! As there is no wire or elastic to rub against your gums, Perfect Clear braces are far more comfortable than fixed braces and far less likely to cause abscesses. You will also spend less time at a dental practice as you won’t need to have them tweaked!

Will Perfect Clear have any negatives effect on me?

Perfect Clear aligners can have a temporary effect on your speech; patients may experience a slight lisp for a day or so. Your mouth and tongue, however, will quickly adjust to the presence of the aligners and these problems should fade quite quickly.

Talk to us

Braces can be a big decision, but we are happy to guide you every step of the way. If Perfect Clear sounds right for you, then why not call us at Liverpool Dental Spa to book your appointment?

What Are Implant Retained Dentures And How Do They Work For Patients In Liverpool?

March 20th, 2013

Dentures are one of the oldest forms of tooth replacement. Arguably dating back to 700BC, dentures have been with us for quite some time. They have also, however, come quite some way from being constructed from wood or animal bone. Although modern dentures may look the part, the one thing they haven’t overcome is that dreaded slippage problem and its impact on your speech, eating and confidence. But working in conjunction with dental implants they look and act like a natural tooth.

What are implant retained dentures?

Picture your favourite set of dentures. Now, rather than having them held in place by natural gum suction or that awful adhesive, imagine they are just there. Implant retained dentures are essentially dentures held in place by metal implants!

Standard procedure

The implants will be fitted by making small incisions in your gums and then drilling into your jaw. The implants are then fitted and your gums are left to heal. Once the implants are fully integrated, your denture can be attached and you’ll be ready to smile!

The advantages of implant retained dentures

The most obvious one is the peace of mind that comes from knowing they won’t be slipping. There are few greater ways of knocking one’s confidence at a cocktail party than worrying that your teeth may fall into your drink… Perhaps the greatest advantage, however, is the practical impact that implant retained dentures will have on your speech and eating. You can gorge yourself and talk till the cows come home without ever worrying that they will break or fall out. Implant retained dentures also look incredibly similar to natural teeth, make denture care extremely simple and can even help prevent bone loss. Dentures worn without implants will compress the gingival and lessen blood flow to the bone, thus speeding up bone loss. Implant retained dentures, however, stimulate the surrounding tissue, preventing this and sometimes encouraging bone growth.

Am I suitable?

Sadly, implants aren’t for everyone. If you take care of your teeth and don’t smoke, then you should have nothing to worry about! Regardless, pop in for a chat and we can let you know if you are eligible.

Learn More About Our Spa Treatments For Patients In Liverpool

March 18th, 2013

Sadly, for some, a trip to the dentists can require more resolve than we would wish. So, to help our patients unwind after surgery or a check-up (and to ensure we live up to our name), we offer a range of personalised spa treatments at Liverpool Dental Spa. We have soothing candles, soft music and comfy blankets waiting for you, along with a whole range of professional treatments. You can even make yourself at home by bringing your own music or DVDs to the practice. We just want to make your visit as comfortable as possible!

Treatments at the day spa

We offer a variety of treatments, ranging from Aromatherapy and soothing herbal eye masks to a variety of massage techniques. For instance, we offer a hot stone massage in which heated stones are strategically placed on parts of your body. The heat provided by the stones is not only relaxing in and of itself, but also warms up tight muscles, thus allowing your masseuse to work more deeply. We also offer a deep sport massage, a form of therapy which is perfect for treating areas of chronic tension such as your neck or lower back. In a 2005 issue of Consumer Magazine, 34,000 people ranked the deep sport massage as being a more effective form of relief from osteoarthritis pain than physical therapy, prescription medication, exercise and acupuncture. At Liverpool Dental Spa, these soothing treatments are just down the door from where you’ll receive your dental work.

Wedding spa package

Want to be pampered and get that wedding photo smile? Well, we now offer special wedding day packages for brides and grooms. These packages include facials, a massage, teeth whitening and skin peels. This is a great way to both look and feel great for your wedding!

The Variety Of Dental Implants At Liverpool Dental Spa

March 15th, 2013

Dental implants are one of the most effective ways to replace missing teeth. They look and function just like real teeth, are cleaned like normal teeth (unlike other replacement methods) and can even  help stimulate the surrounding bone of your jaw, thus preventing the bone loss and change in facial structure associated with dentures. Unfortunately, this treatment isn’t always available to everyone, with bone density problems being the most common barrier. Thankfully, with mini-implants, at Liverpool Dental Spa we are able to provide dental implants to a wider range of people.

What are implants and how mini-implants any different?

Implants are fake teeth which are attached to your jaw, usually by a metal rod. Mini-implants, as the name implies, are just smaller versions of the same thing.

The benefits of mini-implants

Perhaps the greatest benefit of mini-implants is that they offer the benefits of standard implants, but to more people. Traditional implants can also require months of bone fusion before those replacement teeth can be fitted properly. With mini-implants, however, those replacements can be fitted on the same day! The process of fitting mini-implants is also far less invasive than convention implant treatment; gone are the incisions and drilling that can put so many off.

A variety of uses

Other mini-implants can be used for single tooth replacements, they can also be utilised to attach whole sets of teeth; 6 mini-implants, complete with screw tops, can be inserted into your jaw. Dentures can then be attached to, and removed, from these screw tops at your leisure. This is a fantastic way of overcoming the slipping issues associated with dentures, as well as accelerated bone loss: When dentures are worn without stabilised implants, they compress the gingiva and subsequently lessen the supply of blood to the bone. This causes accelerated bone loss. Dentures with mini-implants, thankfully, can stimulate the bone and help prevent this rather undesirable side-effect.

Who is suitable for the mini-implant?

Even though the mini-implant allows a wider range of people to have access to implant treatment, it is still not suitable to everybody. Heavy smoking or drinking may render you unsuitable, as will active gum disease. Come in for a check-up at Liverpool Dental Spa and we can let you know!

Plump Up The Skin With Our Very Special Fillers For Patients In Liverpool

March 11th, 2013

Sometimes, those slight changes can be what drive you mad. A wrinkle here, a frown line there, nothing worth going under the knife for, but you still end up torturing yourself in the bathroom mirror. Well, for those little touch-ups, we at Liverpool Dental Spa are proud to introduce Restylane.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a brand which produces a whole range of ‘dermal fillers’, products which plump up and add volume to the skin.

What is so special about these fillers?

Human beings possess a natural layer of collagen fibre layer which supports their skin. Over time, this layer decays and breaks down. Restylane products utilise hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance, which not only combats said deterioration but also plumps up and adds volume to your skin.

What problems can it combat?

Smoker’s lines around one’s mouth, forehead wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet and thin lips can all be treated with a little Restylane. In fact, it can treat most signs of ageing.

How long will the effects last?

The effects of Restylane will last for about a year, but they can easily be topped up at the practice. I say easily as the procedure is just so quick and simple!

So tell me about this quick and simple procedure then!

Easy: Restylane is simply injected into your chosen problem area via an extremely thin needle. The procedure is so quick and simple that you probably won’t even require an anaesthetic. Best of all, treatment will only take between ten and thirty minutes! The results of the procedure should be immediately noticeable, but sometimes a follow up injection is required either a fortnight or a month after the initial procedure.

Come and talk to us

If you think your skin could do with a little spruce up, then why not book an appointment? Just call us at Liverpool Dental Spa in the heart of Liverpool, our friendly staff are waiting to hear from you.

No More Painful Injections With The Wand For Nervous Patients In Liverpool

March 8th, 2013

Dental phobia can happen to many of us, in all walks of life. Trypanophobia is the rarely used, and overly complicated, title given to a ‘fear of needles’, a fear often stemming from the pain associated with injections. What few people realise, however, is that it is not the needle but the speed at which an injection is administered that can cause pain! Thankfully, with The Wand, we can permanently consign painful injections into the past.

So, what is The Wand?

It is a computer operated injection unit which can control the movement of the anaesthetic being administered, thus preventing the sudden surges which can cause pain. By eliminating human error, the wand can eliminate one of the root causes of needle phobia. Studies have also shown that injection via The Wand is less likely to induce anxiety than other forms of injection. It can also lessen the amount of unneeded numbness which can occur as the result of an anaesthetic and cause so much irritation post-treatment.

Is it really called ‘The Wand’?

Well… It is ‘technically’ called the CompuDent and STA (Single Tooth Anesthesia) System, but that doesn’t quite have the same ring to it now does it? The nickname is probably derived from the look of the unit itself; a needle point wand.

Needle point! So there is still a needle?

Yes, but it is tiny and will not cause any pain. If the mere sight of a needle has you quaking in your boots, then don’t worry; this needle is so small that you probably won’t even notice it.

Why don’t all dentists have this!?

Well, we can’t speak on behalf of others, but, we can assure you that The Wand is primed and ready at Liverpool Dental Spa.
