We Offer A Range Of Facial Rejuvenation Treatments In The City Of Liverpool

February 28th, 2014

General cosmetic treatment at a dental practice might initially sound like a strange idea. On reflection, however, it starts to seem a little more logical: Cosmetic dentistry is popular, leaving general dental problems untreated can lead to an alteration in appearance and, to top it all off, the strict hygiene standards to which dental practitioners are held is perfect for other kinds of treatment. Botox is one of the most visible cosmetic treatments out there, but Juvederm is equally starting to gain some serious recognition…

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is the name of a dermal filler that is injected in to a patient’s skin, via a very fine needle, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Dermal fillers, more generally, are simply medical substances which, quite literally, fill in areas under the skin, such as wrinkles. Juvederm mostly consists of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the muscles of many mammals (including people!). Juvederm’s use of a natural substance aids in its absorption, as well as helping it merge with other natural materials, such as collagen, which are utilised in other cosmetic practices.

What problems is Juvederm best suited for?

Juvederm is particularly god at treating smile lines around the mouth and for filling up scars, but it can also be used to: Remove smoker’s lines from your lip, help dispel wrinkles around the eyes and forehead, to plump up thinner lips and, more generally, just to add volume to a user’s skin.

How long do its effects last?

Much of this depends on the precise condition the Juvederm is treating and the texture of your skin. On average, however, the effects of Juvederm last between 6 and 9 months. If you want to continue utilising the benefits of Juvederm, however, you can always book in for another session once the effects of your initial treatment wear off.

The Ins And Outs Of Mini Dental Implant Treatment For Missing Teeth In The Heart Of Liverpool

February 26th, 2014

Dentistry has a lengthy and illustrious history, but, if you were alive during its early advancements, you would’ve only had one option for replacing missing teeth: Dentures. Although certainly an improvement over no teeth at all, dentures are certainly not without fault: The fear of slippage, difficulty talking, being unable to eat hard foods, the list goes on & on… Thankfully, in the modern era, we now have dental implants, perhaps the closest we have come thus far in dentistry to replicating a real tooth as a replacement. Sadly, conventional implants sometimes aren’t possible for people as a result of bone density issues. Thankfully, mini implants can be used on far more people than their conventional counterparts…

Firstly, what is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a false tooth attached to a small metal rod. The rod is then attached to your gums.

What are the advantages of conventional implants?

They essentially function just like real teeth.

What are the advantages of the mini ones?

Well, aside from the aforementioned increased applicability of them, they are also quicker to fit than other treatments (including conventional implants): Standard implants can take months of preparation, whilst the miniature ones can be done in just a single day! The procedure is also far less invasive than with the conventional implant procedure.

Added benefits

But that’s not all! Alongside replacing single teeth, mini implants can also be used, in a set of six, to replace a whole mouthful of teeth! A set of dentures can be fixed to a set of six implants, thus overcoming all the common denture related problems cited in my introduction.

 Talk to us

Losing a tooth is never fun, but we offer a form of replacement which will give the highest functionality and the more realistic appearance possible in a replacement. If mini implants might be right for you, please call for a consultation at Liverpool Dental Spa.

Introducing The Perfect Clear Treatment In The Heart Of Liverpool

February 24th, 2014

Fixed braces are effective, but, according to that ever shifting mix of cultural norms which designate desirability, they aren’t particularly attractive. As a result, some people can get a little self conscious about seeking orthodontic treatment. Given that dental phobia affects a lot of people already, letting appearances put people off treatment is just something that dentistry cannot allow! Thankfully, for those who prefer a more subtle form of brace treatment, there is the Perfect Clear aligner system.

What is Perfect Clear?

Perfect Clear is a system of nigh-on invisible, clear, plastic aligners which gradually shift a user’s teeth into alignment.

The particular perks of Perfect Clear

The name kind of hints at their major selling point: These awesome aligners are practically invisible and, as such, overcome any of that brace related embarrassment you might be imagining. They do, however, come with a bunch of practical benefits too! The aligners, for instance, are removable, meaning that they can be taken out for cleaning, thus preventing food from building up in hard to reach areas and meaning that you can clean them conventionally. No specialist brace equipment is needed for Perfect Clear users! Plus, you can eat what you please: conventional braces can break or be damaged if certain foods are consumed. Being able to remove your aligners at meal times eliminates any need to alter your diet. The absence of any wire or elastic also means that they will sit more comfortably in your mouth, and, as a bonus, you will be less likely to get any abscesses around your mouth. Less work is also required to maintain them than with fixed braces.

Are there downsides?

For some, Perfect Clear has been known to have a marginal impact on a user’s speech, an effect often resembling a lisp, which can last for a few days. Users will, however, adapt to the aligners swiftly and the issues should vanish quite quickly.

Broken Teeth Treatment In The City Of Liverpool

February 19th, 2014

Unfortunately teeth can break for many reasons including accident or injuries. At Liverpool Dental Spa, our preferred method of treating chipped or broken teeth is a little process called ‘composite bonding,’ and this is what that is…

Tell me about ‘composite bonding?’

It is a procedure that has been used within dentistry for quite some time. It basically involves the skilled, artistic use of ‘dental composite’ material, something with a consistency similar to a paste constructed from various types of resin and filler. This particular substance is used to fill in the cracks and breaks in your chosen tooth or teeth.

A typical procedure

Normally, you will only be required to make a single trip to your dentist’s. Some of the time, patients won’t even need an anaesthetic! An anaesthetic, depending on your thoughts and feelings, either will or won’t be administered and, following that, your tooth will be thoroughly cleaned with incredible precision: the composite bonding substance requires a clean surface to bond to. You will select, with the aid of your dentist, a shade of material to suite your teeth and, once selected, your tooth will be prepared with either cotton balls or a rubber band so as to keep your mouth dry. The surface will then be etched via a special gel which will help with the bonding process. The composite substance is then applied to the tooth in question and the tooth is placed under the light of a special lamp which will unlock the composite’s special qualities, helping it to set. Further composite material is supplied in smaller applications until your tooth looks as it should.

Cosmetic bonding blurs the line between science and art. Thankfully, our skilled dentists are as artful as they are knowledgeable! If you are interested in exploring cosmetic bonding, do not hesitate to contact Liverpool Dental Spa.

We Look After The Whole Families Teeth-Children’s Dentistry In Central Liverpool

February 17th, 2014

It isn’t just grown-ups who need to take care of their pearly whites! Children’s teeth can sometimes be treated as a kind of test run: they are going to fall out anyway, so what is the big deal? Well, firstly, losing milk teeth early can impact upon the development of a child’s jaw and, subsequently, their facial structure. Secondly, habits developed in youth can stay with a child well into adulthood and, if one of those happens to be a lax attitude to dental care, then you might be causing future problems with that care free attitude. So, what do you do to give your child the best start possible?

We offer early check ups

Cavities can erupt in a child’s mouth even before their teeth have emerged. As a result, we recommend taking your child in for a dental examination as soon as you feel comfortable to do so. Having a check up every six months is also a good habit to carry in to adulthood and having such examinations when young helps notice little problems before they swell into giant ones.

The foundations of brushing

In between those essential checkups, however, the parent is its child’s main defender against plaque and tooth decay and, via the foundation of a solid oral health regimen, will be setting their kid up for a life of fruitful dental health. Initially, however, the parent will actually be cleaning their children’s teeth on their behalf. Prior to them emerging, you can clean a baby’s teeth with the use of a wet cloth and a dollop of tooth paste. Post-eruption, you can purchase special brushes to clean their new teeth with. The mantra for kids capable of brushing is: ‘Brush for two minutes, twice a day’.

Preventing future problems

Many dental problems can be spotted during early checkups, halting them from becoming big issue for their adult selves. In terms of preventative protection, we currently offer fluoride applications and fissure sealants so as to help protect your child’s teeth during those early, sweet consuming, years.

The significance of learning

Alongside general technique, we hope also to dispel the notion that dentists are something to be frightened of. Dental phobia can be a major problem in adult life and developing a healthy relationship with a dental practice at a young age can prevent this.

We Offer The Ultimate In Invisible Braces Treatment In The Very Heart Of Liverpool

February 13th, 2014

Even the Benedict Cumberbatch incarnation of Baker Street super sleuth Sherlock Holmes might take a little while to trace these braces. For some, braces are embarrassing. Regardless of the reasoning behind this, the MTM No Trace brace system allows people who feel this way to hide their orthodontic woes from snooping acquaintances.

So.. what is this ‘MTM No Trace brace’ then?

Well, it is a nigh on invisible, fixed brace mostly used to treat minor problems with one’s bite. The brace operates, and comes with the advantages of, a fixed brace system, but, unlike fixed braces, it is difficult to see. Why? The brace is fitted on the inside of the mouth!

Plus points of the No Trace brace

Well, the cosmetic benefits are, ironically, the most recognisable feature of this discreet brace system: By hiding itself from view, you avoid all those aforementioned embarrassing associations. By being fixed, it also avoids the biggest problem faced by removable brace users: human error. Removable aligners can be taken out for brief periods, often for cleaning, but forgetting to put them back on can have a major effect on treatment: Forgetting to wear your aligner can prevent the next one in a series from fitting, delaying your treatment and increasing the costs involved. The MTM No Trace, however, is fixed and, subsequently, you have naught to fret over. You won’t even have to refrain from fretting for long! The No Trace system is quick and can conjure up a perfectly straight smile in as little as twelve weeks.

Is this treatment suitable for all?

Sadly not: The MTM No Trace system is intended for patients suffering from minor orthodontic issues and, whilst ideal for performing small dental movements, isn’t appropriate for more extensive treatment. Do not fret though my fearful friend, for, even if this option isn’t quite right for you,  at Liverpool Dental Spa we have plenty of treatments to offer as alternatives. If you only need a little adjustment to your bite, however, then the No Trace brace might just do the trick!

We Know How To Look After And Treat Nervous Patients In Liverpool City Centre

February 11th, 2014

True horror lies beyond the rational, and phobias are, in their very nature, irrational. Even if sympathising with such extreme and, often unjustified, fears is difficult, recognising the horror of a phobia’s impact is less of a stretch: People who are afraid of the dentist might literally do anything to avoid visiting one and, subsequently, they live a life without dental care, often letting their teeth rot in to a plaque riddled mess of yellowing husk, exposed roots ad gingivitis. If you don’t visit the dentist, you don’t get your teeth checked, and if you don’t get your teeth checked then horrible things can happen to them. This attitude isn’t rare either: Over three quarters of our American brethren suffer some kind of dental anxiety, whilst 10% – 20% suffer with the crippling stuff. In Britain, around a quarter of the population admit to being scared of the dentist (and that’s just those that admit it)! How do you helps someone through such agonising fear and into to the dental chair? Well, we recommend intravenous sedation.

What is this intravenous sedation?

It is a safe sedative which is administered via a small injection. Application of the sedative will occur before any other procedures and it will make those who use it feel calm and content. Given that it will make you drowsy, do remember to have a friend around afterwards to pick you up! Don’t worry tough, it won’t put you to sleep: You’ll still be able to interact and respond to your dentist, though you may struggle to remember doing so afterwards.

How does it work?

As the name implies, it works via injection. If you also suffer from the, rather common, fear of needles, please talk to a staff member as alternative treatments may be able to be provided. The sedative is applied via a super thin needle and the vein in to which it will be injected will be very close to the surface of your skin. Dental sedation has proved such a hit that it is also being used as a substitute to a conventional anaesthetic in some treatments!

Call us

Our staff want to help and are willing to work with you to make that possible. If you have any fears, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Improve Your Smile With Our Durable Yet Delicate Da Vinci Veneer Treatment In Liverpool

February 6th, 2014

With a skill and craftsmanship that lives up to its artistic namesake, Da Vinci veneers have become one of America’s most trusted brands and have even featured on ABC’s program Extreme Makeover. These veneers will also blend in with your teeth for a natural bright smile.

What are dental veneers, generally?

Before we get to subtle variants, let’s explain the basic concept: Dental veneers are very thin layers of material which are applied to your teeth so as to give the impression of a perfect, uniform smile. A common analogy in the dental industry is to like veneers to false nails (except veneers are for your teeth).

What can veneers be used to treat?

Well, they pretty much cover up your natural teeth, so, in a sense, anything that can be concealed: Stains, chips, discoloration and gaps, all of these problems can be treated with veneers. In fact, the only thing they aren’t best suited for is orthodontic treatment and, in some cases, they can even be used there: In a process nicknamed ‘instant orthodontics,’ minor misalignments can be covered up just like all the other problems previously mentioned.

What is so special about Da Vinci veneers?

Well, the Da Vinci labs in California claim that: their veneers are thinner than normal ones, are highly resistant to permanent staining, have a more natural look than your standard veneer and, during the initial treatment, don’t even require an anaesthetic when being placed.

Getting them fitted

Following an initial consultation, during which you may be shown a digital preview of yourself with said veneers fitted, an appointment will be booked so you can be prepped for treatment. So as to accommodate your veneers, your teeth will be buffed so as to remove 0.5 millimetres of tooth surface. An impression of your teeth will then be taken and sent to the Da Vinci lab in California. It takes roughly two weeks for your veneers to arrive and, during that wait, you will be fitted with temporary veneers. Once they arrive, your dentist will double check their colour and fit, and, if you are satisfied, will then cement them in to place! At this stage, their colour can still be adjusted, so speak up if you aren’t happy!

Dazzle And Sparkle With One Of Our Exclusive Smile Makeovers In Liverpool

February 4th, 2014

This is normally the part where we explain what the treatment in the title is; definition is a tricky enough business as it is, but, with the smile makeover, this is made all the more difficult, as a smile makeover can be anything and everything. Smile makeovers are defined not by the processes they require, but by their end result: Your smile has, one way or another, been improved. What else is there to say then? Well, at Liverpool Dental Spa, not only do we have a comprehensive range of treatments to treat a multitude of problems, we also have a detailed consultation process, so as to ensure you are getting the precise smile you desire.

Tell us what you want

It all begins with a consultation. Here, you will tell us what you want and, after a quick examination, we will be able to determine what treatments would be best suited to your dream set of teeth. Given the significance of this stage, it would be wise to turn up having asked yourself a few questions about what you would want to change: Do you, for instance, feel your mouth is too crowded? Are your teeth a little too yellow? Our team of experts will be able to deal with most concerns and, given their expertise, you shouldn’t worry too much about the consultation: As long as you know what you want, they’ll know how to get it. We can even cook up some mock-ups of how the treatments will look, using the latest in 3-D imaging and digital photography technology, just so you have an idea of what the end result will be.

So, what can you treat?

If it can be treated, it can be included in your smile makeover. Broken or chipped teeth? That can be treated. Missing teeth? Those can be treated too. Stained or worn teeth? Yup, those too. Can you treat… orthodontic issues!? Even orthodontic problems can be dealt with via a smile makeover. Honestly, we can even recontour your gums so as to ensure your smile seems even, symmetrical and, overall, a little less ‘gummy’.

It all begins with a consultation, so why not book one today in the heart of Liverpool?
