Brighten Your Smile With Our Teeth Whitening Products In Liverpool

June 27th, 2014

Over the course of time the radiant natural whiteness of the teeth can fade, and factors such as diet and smoking can cause discolouration. We offer amazing whitening treatments to lighten and brighten your teeth and create a beautiful, glowing smile.

We offer a range of treatments to fit the various needs of our patients and recommend Enlighten whitening for a dazzling, yet natural-looking smile.

What is Enlighten?

Enlighten is often touted as the world’s leading whitening system, as it produces amazing results. In fact, this is the only system on the market that guarantees shade B1, the lightest tooth shade.

Enlighten is a convenient, simple and very effective whitening treatment, which will give your smile a gorgeous, bright glow. This system takes elements of home whitening and in-clinic treatment and combines them to create the very best results.

For the first 14 days of treatment, patients wear a custom-designed whitening tray during the night at home. The tray contains a whitening agent, which lightens the shade of the teeth while you sleep.

On the 15th day, patients come into the practice for a power whitening treatment, which takes just one hour. We encourage you to bring a DVD or some music if you want to and to just simply sit back and relax while the Enlighten treatment does its magic. We apply whitening agent to your teeth, activated by a light beam. Treatment is completely painless and sensitivity is minimal with Enlighten. The results of treatment are visible immediately and you will have a healthy, iridescent smile for years to come!

If your teeth are looking a little dull and would benefit from a whitening boost, contact us today or pop in and make an appointment!

The Advantages Of White Fillings In The City Of Liverpool

June 21st, 2014

Until fairly recently, patients who had decayed teeth were provided with fillings made from silver amalgam. These fillings were made from a mixture of metals such as mercury. Now, many patients opt for white fillings, which are made from dental composite, glass ionmers and resins for a more natural look.

We place new white fillings to treat tooth decay, and we can also replace amalgam fillings with white fillings for those who would prefer a more aesthetically pleasing restoration.

What are the benefits of white fillings?

White fillings are designed to match your natural tooth shade and this means that they are invisible once they are in place. They don’t impair the look of your smile and they help to make your tooth stronger and resistant to infection in the future. White fillings are also safer and more environmentally friendly than amalgam fillings, as concerns have been raised about problems with toxicity associated with mercury. Silver fillings are highly visible when you open your mouth and although they are strong and durable, modern materials used for fillings are almost as hard-wearing and a white filling should last around 7-10 years.

What happens when you have a filling?

When you have a filling, the tooth is prepared and then filling material is placed inside the cavity. The preparation stage involves removing any decayed tissue from the cavity and then cleaning the tooth to get rid of any harmful bacteria.

Once the cavity is clean, bonding material is placed inside the hole to help the composite to adhere. The dental composite is then poured into the cavity and shaped. At this stage, it is like putty in texture and can be moulded to fit the cavity. The composite is then set firm using a powerful curing light and then any final trimming is carried out to ensure a comfortable fit.

Dealing With Damaged Teeth In Central Liverpool

June 15th, 2014

Your teeth are made from sturdy stuff, but general wear and tear, injuries and accidents can take their toll and there is a risk of them becoming damaged and broken. If you have a broken tooth, there are various options available to you. These include: restorative treatments (such as crowning or dental implants), cosmetic treatments (such as veneers), or a simple and quick procedure known as cosmetic bonding.

What is cosmetic bonding?

Cosmetic bonding is often referred to as composite bonding and it is a procedure used to carry out minor repairs to the teeth. This procedure involves using dental composite, which is also used to fill cavities, to patch up and build up the teeth to create a beautiful smile.

Bonding is a really effective treatment for patients who have chipped and worn teeth, as well as those who have unsightly gaps between their teeth, and it is a much cheaper and less invasive solution than veneers. The changes made to individual teeth appear to be very minor, but when you look in the mirror you will be amazed at the difference they make to the overall appearance of your smile.

The bonding process

The procedure involves using dental composite to build up worn edges, smooth rough surfaces, reduce the size of the gap between two teeth and repair chipped teeth. Your dentist will shape the composite while it is still in a soft form and then set it hard using a curing light. This painless procedure doesn’t take long, and the results are staggering.

Typically, the procedure takes less than an hour and no anaesthetic is required. The results are visible straightaway, there is no recovery time and your teeth will be stronger, as well as looking healthier. Composite can be matched to the closest shade to your natural teeth, so that the ‘new’ part of the tooth cannot be distinguished from the rest of the tooth.

Benefits Of Botox In The Heart Of Liverpool

June 13th, 2014

Botox is a non-surgical solution for wrinkles and lines and gives your skin a radiant glow. If you’ve started to notice lines around your eyes, nose or mouth or you want to inject a bit of vibrancy and youthfulness into your complexion, Botox could be an ideal treatment for you.

What is Botox?

Botox (botulinum toxin type A) is a purified form of toxin, which is injected into targeted areas of the skin to reduce the visibility of signs of ageing, including fine and deep lines. Botox is used in extremely small quantities and it works by prohibiting nerve signals to the facial muscles, which reduces muscle contraction and maintains a smooth complexion.

Botox is most commonly used around the eyes and mouth and on the forehead to tackle crow’s feet, laughter lines, frown lines and wrinkles running between the nose and mouth. We have many years of experience in providing Botox treatment and we aim for a natural look and a healthy looking glow.

Botox treatment sessions

Botox is a very quick and convenient treatment and typically, sessions only last 10-30 minutes. We use an ultra-fine needle to inject the Botox into the skin and this causes the wrinkles to dilate and soften, creating a rejuvenated aesthetic. Botox has obvious aesthetic effects, but it also helps to boost confidence and self-esteem and it does not carry the risks of surgical treatment.

How long can I expect the results to last?

Botox is not a permanent solution and the results of treatment typically last between 3 and 6 months. Once the effects start to fade, many patients choose to have repeat top-up sessions to maintain the look.

If you’re looking for an effective, safe, non-invasive means of rejuvenating and reviving your skin, call us today to find out more about Botox and arrange a consultation.

Say Hello To A Straighter Smile With Clearstep Braces In Liverpool

June 11th, 2014

Have you ever dreamed of a perfectly straight smile? Well, now your dreams can come true, thanks to our amazing orthodontic treatments! If you’re searching for a discreet, comfortable treatment that works quickly and promises incredible results, allow us to introduce you to ClearStep.

What is ClearStep?

ClearStep is an aligner system that’s capable of correcting a wide range of orthodontic issues. It uses a series of custom-made aligners, also known as positioners, to guide the teeth and gently move them into the correct spot for a truly beautiful smile.

ClearStep aligners are removable and they are made from clear plastic, so you can hardly notice them. This not only means that you don’t have to deal with comments or judgements from others, but you can smile with confidence during the entire treatment process.

Who can benefit from Clearstep?

Clearstep is suitable for a wide range of patients with minor and moderate orthodontic issues and is an excellent option for those who are wary of visible braces and would prefer a removable appliance to a fixed brace. We do not recommend this treatment for patients under the age of 14, but otherwise it is a good match for most patients.

How does Clearstep work?

ClearStep works by using a series of aligners to move and straighten the teeth. Each one of the aligners is slightly different and the changing shape accommodates tooth movement. Each aligner is worn for two weeks and then swapped for the next in line until treatment is complete. It is important that the aligners are worn in the correct order and that they are in place for at least 21 hours per day. The aligners are designed to be taken out when you brush your teeth and when you are eating, which makes it much easier to enjoy your food and keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy.

Special Treatments For Snorers In The City Of Liverpool

June 9th, 2014

Snoring is a problem that affects thousands of people in the UK. Sadly, most of the time it’s somebody else who bears the brunt of snoring. If your partner snores, this can wake you up, keep you awake and cause you to feel tired and irritable during the day. Prolonged periods of disturbed sleep can increase the risk of stress, health problems and strain on your relationship. If you live with a snorer or you snore on a regular basis, we can help! We use effective techniques to improve air flow and help you to enjoy a good night’s sleep.

What causes snoring?

Common risk factors for snoring include being overweight, drinking alcohol, smoking and respiratory illnesses. Sometimes, making changes to your lifestyle and your habits can help; for example, losing weight, exercising regularly, giving up smoking, changing your sleeping position and avoiding drinking alcohol during the evening.

How we can help

We work with medical experts to help patients who snore. Most people snore from time to time, usually when they are ill or they are lying on their back. However, persistent snoring is usually a sign that the body is not getting enough oxygen and we use techniques and appliances to ensure that this is not longer an issue. We use bite guards and appliances to move the jaw forward to increase air flow and prevent snoring. Treatment will also enable you to relax during the night and improve the quality of your sleep, which will leave you and your partner feeling fresher and more energetic the next day.

If you’re suffering as a result of snoring, let us help you to get a restful night’s sleep! Simply call us to arrange an appointment.

What Is The Difference Between Dental Anxiety And Dental Phobia In Liverpool?

June 7th, 2014

At the Liverpool Dental Spa, we cater for patients with dental anxiety and dental phobia, and do everything we can to try and make every patient feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. We have experience in caring for nervous patients and patients with phobias. Our team is friendly, understanding, compassionate and approachable.

Our aim is to try and enable you to attend regular dental appointments without feeling anxious or scared, and without experiencing dread in the run up to your appointment. We adopt a gentle approach, we listen to you and we use the latest treatments and methods to help you to relax.

What is the difference between dental anxiety and dental phobia?

Dental anxiety affects most people to a certain degree, according to polls and surveys. Many people experience signs of mild anxiety when they are sitting in the waiting room or climbing into the dental chair, but for some people, the anxiety is much more profound and this is known as a phobia. A phobia is defined as an irrational fear and it causes symptoms such as sweating, feelings of extreme anxiety and fear, rapid heartbeat, palpitations and nausea. Phobias make people feel very scared even when there is no threat of danger. Many patients who have dental phobia are so scared of visiting the dentist or having an injection or even sitting in a waiting room, that they avoid seeing a dentist for many years.

We are able to cater for patients with both dental anxiety and dental phobia. Often, we recommend sedation for patients who are very nervous about treatment.

Sedation

Sedation is a technique used commonly in dentistry and medicine to prevent patients from experiencing pain, and encourage them to feel more relaxed. Often, sedation is compared to anaesthetic, but the two are actually different. General anaesthetic sends you into an unconscious state. However when you are sedated, you are conscious and can communicate with your dentist if you wish to. You recover from sedation much quicker than you would from general anaesthetic and the procedure does not carry the same risks.

When you are sedated, sedative medication induces a state of very deep calm and you won’t feel any pain. It is also common to have little recollection of what happened during the procedure when the medication effects have worn off.

If you suffer from dental anxiety, or you have a phobia of going to the dentist, we’re here to help. Call us today to find out more.

Protect Your Smile Against Gum Disease In The Centre Of Liverpool

June 5th, 2014

Gum disease is one of the most potent and dangerous threats to a beautiful, healthy smile. However, it is preventable. We actively encourage our patients to take preventative steps to keep gum disease at bay.

Here are some tips for reducing your risk of gum disease:

Oral hygiene

Good oral hygiene is the best method of defense against gum disease. Gum disease is caused by plaque, which contains harmful bacteria. Bacteria release acids and these irritate the gums, as well as contributing to enamel wear. When the gums are irritated, they become sore and swollen. We recommend brushing twice a day using fluoride toothpaste for at least 2 minutes each time and flossing on a daily basis to remove plaque and food debris from the tiny gaps between your teeth.

Diet

Your diet has a significant impact on your oral health and knowing what and what not to eat can make a huge difference. Sugary foods cause the bacteria in your mouth to release plaque acids, which cause inflammation and soreness in the gums. Acidic foods are also bad news for the teeth, as they erode away the protective enamel layer of the teeth. It is particularly important to avoid eating or drinking sugary or acidic foods and drinks between meals. This is because your enamel becomes temporarily softer when you eat and it takes time for it re-mineralise and harden again. If you eat constantly during the day, this means that your enamel never has chance to fully recover. It is also important to wait around 60 minutes after eating to brush your teeth, as brushing while the enamel is still soft increases the risk of wear.

Dental checks

Regular dental checks help to reduce the risk of gum disease and enable dentists to spot the early warning signs so that any existing inflammation can be treated as quickly as possible. We recommend check-ups every 6 months for all our patients.

Spot the signs

It’s really useful to be able to spot the signs of gum disease, so that you can get help as quickly as possible. Symptoms to look out for include bleeding gums (especially when you brush your teeth), sore and swollen gums and increased redness in the gums. If you notice these signs, call us and we will book you an appointment.

The Importance Of Regular Check-Ups For Children In Liverpool

June 3rd, 2014

Our clinic is forward-thinking, modern and stylish, but we retain a sense of familiarity and cater for patients of all ages. We love welcoming children to the practice and our friendly team always goes the extra mile to ensure that they leave with a big, sparkly grin on their face. We understand that going to the dentist can be a scary experience for little people and we do everything we can to help ensure they have loads of fun and can’t wait for their next dental appointment.

Children’s oral health

The importance of good oral health for children should not be underestimated. Although the milk teeth are designed to fall out, premature loss of these teeth can contribute to problems with the adult teeth and we actively encourage parents and children to take steps to avoid and prevent decay from a very early age. Children who have decayed teeth may experience pain and toothache, which will affect their concentration and their mood.

We encourage children to adopt a good daily oral hygiene routine and we are happy to show kids how to brush their teeth and answer any questions they have about teeth cleaning and why it is important that they brush their teeth twice a day.

We recommend daily brushing in the mornings and evenings for at least 2 minutes each time and also advise parents to consider preventative treatments for their children. These include fissure sealant and fluoride varnish. Both of these treatments are designed to reduce the risk of decay; fluoride helps to make the enamel stronger, while fissure sealant treatment provides a protective barrier between bacteria and food debris and the cracks (fissures) on the surfaces of the teeth.

Dental check-ups for children

Check-ups are a really important chance for us to chart your child’s tooth development and check for any signs of decay or gum disease. Regular appointments also enable us to spot changes in the mouth or any issues, such as orthodontic problems, that may need treatment in the future. All the relevant information from the check-up is recorded in your child’s notes. Dental checks are quick and painless and getting children used to regular appointments from an early age reduces the risk of them becoming scared and anxious when they see a dentist. We recommend 6 monthly check-ups for children from the age of 12 months old.
