What Are Implant-Retained Dentures in the Centre of Liverpool?

July 30th, 2014

Implant-retained dentures combine the advantageous aspects of dentures and dental implants and they are an excellent option for patients who have a large number of missing teeth.

Everything you need to know about implant-retained dentures!

With implant-retained dentures, the denture is anchored by dental implants, rather than the suction of the gums and this provides much greater stability. With implants there to hold the denture in place, there is no risk of the denture sliding out of position and this means that you have complete peace of mind, as well as the ability to chew food with force. As there is no chance of the denture coming loose, you can eat whatever you like without any worry at all, so crusty bread and juicy steaks don’t have to be off the menu.

Implant-retained dentures are also much easier to clean and maintain and you don’t have to spend time every day soaking your dentures. This treatment is simple and stress-free; there is no need for denture adhesive and you simply clean your mouth in the normal way.

What does treatment involve?

The first stage of treatment is the planning stage. We will arrange a consultation so that we can talk through the procedures and discuss treatment time. We will also be able to explain how the treatment works and outline the benefits and of course, we will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.

Once planning is complete, the first procedure can take place. This involves placing the dental implants. To do this, a small incision is made in the gum and the gum flap is lifted; the implant is then secured into a pre-drilled hole in the jaw and the gum flap is closed and stitched.

Once the implants have healed, the dentures are placed in position.

If you would like to find out more about implant-retained dentures or our other tooth replacement treatments, don’t hesitate to give us a call today!

Improve Your Confidence with Perfect Clear Braces in the Heart of Liverpool

July 26th, 2014

One of the main reasons people worry about having braces is their image. Braces can be unsightly and unattractive and this can make you feel less confident, especially in social settings. Thankfully, we have options available for patients who have these concerns and our amazing clear braces will help you to feel confident during the treatment process.

Advantages of clear braces

Clear braces give you the opportunity to feel more confident during the treatment process when you have braces. With clear braces, you can smile without worrying about what you look like or how others perceive you because you are wearing braces. Clear braces are also a great option for adults who have professional roles and rely on face to face contact as part of their job description and would like to maintain a certain image, as they produce incredible results without anyone being able to see the brace.

Our clear brace treatments

We offer a range of clear brace options to suit patients with all kinds of orthodontic issues and to cater for patient’s varying preferences. Our treatments include Invisalign, Clearstep and Perfect Clear.

These systems are aligner treatments, which use removable appliances to gently guide the teeth into position and smooth out problems with misalignment. Invisalign is one of the world’s leading orthodontic treatments and it has become extremely popular, as more and more people look for a discreet alternative to fixed braces. Clearstep is similar and both treatments use a series of bespoke aligners, which are worn for 2 weeks at a time in a set order until treatment is complete. Perfect Clear uses specially designed K positioners to reposition the teeth.

Marvellous MAC Veneers in the City of Liverpool

July 22nd, 2014

MAC veneers are a unique veneer treatment that creates stunning smiles. These veneers offer style as well as strength and durability and they are guaranteed to transform any smile.

About MAC veneers

MAC veneers are a type of veneer made from high-grade pressed ceramic. These veneers are designed and manufactured in California and they offer much greater durability than traditional porcelain veneers. On average, these veneers last twice as long as normal veneers and they are coloured from the inside using a range of different hues to create a beautiful, natural look.

MAC veneers are strong and they are also resistant to staining, meaning that your smile will sparkle for many years to come.

How could MAC veneers help me?

MAC veneers are capable of addressing a number of common dental and aesthetic issues, including chipped teeth, worn tooth surfaces, discolouration and staining and small spaces between the teeth. With MAC veneers, the smile will look absolutely perfect and you can enjoy greater confidence when you smile and meet new people.

The treatment process

MAC veneers are fitted in two separate appointments. During the first appointment, we will discuss the ins and outs of treatment and talk you through the process. We will also create impressions of your teeth and take photographs, which will be sent to the MicroDental Laboratory in the USA. The teeth will be gently etched to make space for the veneers.

The second appointment is the exciting part; your new veneers will be placed on top of your teeth and then firmly secured once you are happy with the look of your smile. You can then look forward to stepping outside and showing your new smile to the world!

July 18th, 2014

Juvederm is a non-invasive treatment, which is designed to rejuvenate the skin and give you a gorgeous, youthful glow. If you’re worried about lines or you’d like to give wrinkles the boot in time for summer, why not try Juvederm?

What is Juvederm and how does it work?

Juvederm is a non-surgical facial treatment, which has a range of uses. This treatment uses substances found naturally in the body to add volume to the skin and make wrinkles and lines less noticeable. The finished result is a smooth, soft and glowing complexion.

Juvederm is injected into targeted areas of the skin to enhance facial aesthetics and create smoother, more vibrant skin. This treatment is an effective solution for crow’s feet, folds around the nose and mouth, smoker’s lines and frown lines and it can also be used to create more volume and definition in the cheeks and lips.

What happens when you have Juvederm treatment?

Juvederm treatment is incredibly quick and simple. After you have decided which areas you want to treat, we use a very fine needle to inject Juvederm into your skin. The treatment session only takes around 15 minutes and you should not feel any pain. After treatment, you will be fine to get back to the rest of your day and you will soon start to notice the effects of treatment.

How long does Juvederm last?

Brilliant Botox in Liverpool

July 15th, 2014

Botox is a very popular facial rejuvenation treatment, which promises to banish lines and wrinkles without the need for surgery. After Botox treatment, your skin will look smoother, younger and brighter.

What is Botox?

Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A, which is used to revive and rejuvenate the skin and combat fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is injected into the skin and it helps to smooth the complexion by restricting muscle contraction; it does this by blocking nerve signals to the muscles in the face.

Botox is most commonly used to target problem areas, including the delicate skin around the eyes, the forehead and the area between the nose and mouth. Sessions usually only take around 15 minutes and there is no need to worry about taking time off to recover, as you can get back to the rest of your plans for the day straight away.

Does Botox treatment hurt?

Botox is injected into targeted areas of the skin using an ultra-fine needle. The injections are not painful, but we can use a mild typical anaesthetic to numb the skin beforehand, if this would make you feel more comfortable. After treatment, you should not feel any unpleasant side-effects and you should start to notice the effects of treatment shortly after.

If you’re concerned about wrinkles, you’d like to give your skin a bit of TLC or you simply want to delay the signs of ageing for a little longer, call us today to arrange a consultation so you can find out more about Botox and how it could rejuvenate your skin.

Say Goodbye to Dental Phobia with Sedation in the Centre of Liverpool

July 14th, 2014

Dental phobia causes such intense fear that many patients avoid going to the dentist even if they have crippling dental pain. At Liverpool Dental Spa, we understand that some of our patients feel very anxious and we offer the latest techniques and treatments to help banish dental phobia for good. We offer sedation for many procedures and we also use The Wand to eliminate painful injections.

Everything you need to know about sedation

Sedation is a method we use to make treatment more comfortable for patients. It involves using sedative medication and is used widely in medicine and dentistry. When you are sedated, your mind and body feel completely calm and you don’t feel any pain at all.

We use IV sedation, which means that the sedative is injected into the body through a vein in the arm. Once the sedative has been administered, it will quickly take effect and you will start to feel relaxed. You may feel a little drowsy but you won’t lose consciousness and if you want to, you can talk to your dentist. You will be able to breathe as normal.

Once your treatment is complete, you will be given medicine to bring you around and we will monitor you closely until you are alert and ready to go home. You cannot drive for 24 hours after sedation, so you will need to arrange for somebody to take you home. The effects of the sedative will wear off gradually and you probably won’t have much memory of what happened during treatment.

When can sedation be used?

We use sedation for a wide range of dental procedures and it is highly beneficial for patients who have dental phobia and those who feel very nervous about undergoing a dental procedure. We may also recommend sedation when the procedure is long or complex, as this will ensure that the patient remains in a relaxed state.

How Are Mini Implants Fitted in the Heart of Liverpool?

July 10th, 2014

Mini dental implants are essentially smaller versions of conventional dental implants, which may be used to support dentures or other types of restoration when the jaw bone lacks density. As mini implants are smaller than normal implants, they are easier to tolerate and may be a viable option for patients who have been advised against traditional implants.

How are mini implants fitted?

Mini implants are fitted in a similar way to traditional dental implants, but the procedure is less invasive, as the head of the implant remains above the gum line. The mini implant fitting procedure is usually carried out whilst the patient is under local anaesthetic or sedation, meaning that they do not experience any pain. Mini implants are finer than larger implants and this means that they can be placed through the gum tissue without the need for an incision.

Mini implants differ to traditional implants because they do not require months of healing and in most cases, the new restoration can be attached on the same day as the implants. This means that the healing period is much shorter and you can enjoy the benefits of your treatment straightaway.

What are the advantages of mini dental implants?

Mini dental implants provide a solution for those patients who do have dense enough tissue in the jaw to support traditional implants. Treatment times are much shorter than traditional implants and the procedure is less invasive, so healing times are much faster and the procedure is not as daunting for nervous patients. Dental implants offer security and stability, they last a lot longer than other types of tooth replacement and they help to reduce bone loss. When attached to dentures, mini implants offer unrivalled levels of support, which enable you to eat and speak freely, safe in the knowledge that there is no risk of the denture slipping.

We are able to use mini implants to support dentures, dental bridges and single crowns.

Fantastic Fixed Braces in the City of Liverpool

July 6th, 2014

Fixed braces have been around for decades and it’s no surprise that they remain a very popular choice for patients with orthodontic issues. Fixed braces are proven to work and they produce incredible smiles. We are delighted to offer a host of fixed brace treatments, including the latest systems on the market.

Fixed braces have come a long way in a relatively short space of time and patients can now enjoy a host of features, which are designed to make treatment more comfortable, improve aesthetics and enhance comfort.

Our fixed brace treatments

We have treatments available to treat a wide range of orthodontic problems, from slightly crooked teeth to complex issues with the bite. Our treatments include Damon Braces, CFast, MTM-No Trace Brace and In-Ovation R. We also offer Six Month Smiles.

Six Month Smiles, CFast and MTM No Trace Brace are systems that are designed to treat minor and moderate issues predominantly affecting the front teeth, known as the social 6. These braces are discreet, using tooth-coloured and clear components, and treatment times are short, with an average completion time of between 4 and 6 months.

Damon Braces are extremely advanced fixed braces and they are suitable for most patients, including those with the most complex needs. These braces use self-ligating wires and a sliding bracket mechanism to move the teeth quickly with minimal pain and they are much more discreet than traditional fixed braces.

Which fixed brace treatment is best for me?

Often, the treatment you choose will depend on the complexity of the orthodontic prescription. Once we have assessed your needs, we will be able to discuss your options with you and we can talk you through the pros and cons of each treatment to help you to decide which one is best.

Painless Injections with The Wand in Central Liverpool

July 5th, 2014

Often, patients come to us feeling nervous because they have a fear of injections and needles. With The Wand, we are able to deliver pain-free injections to make you feel more comfortable during treatment and more relaxed in the run-up to your appointment.

What is The Wand?

The Wand is a computerised device, which eliminates pain from injections. Many patients have a phobia of injections because they have caused them pain in the past; this is most commonly the result of fluid being injected too fast or with a sudden burst. With The Wand, the flow of fluid is controlled by a computer, meaning that there is absolutely no risk of the fluid flowing too quickly and therefore no risk of pain.

The Wand is suitable for patients of all ages and it can really help patients to feel less anxious when they have treatment. The Wand is a needle, but it is hidden from sight and all the patient can see is a pen-like device. The needle is attached to the computer.

Keep Bad Breath at Bay in Liverpool

July 2nd, 2014

The last thing you want is to feel self-conscious every time you meet a friend for a coffee, stand up to deliver a presentation or place an order at the bar. Bad breath is a very common problem, but it can be embarrassing and if it affects you on a regular basis, it can have a major bearing on day to day life. At Liverpool Dental Spa, our dentists and dental hygienists can help to banish bad breath for good, leaving you free to enjoy getting together with friends and filled with confidence when it comes to face to face meetings at work.

Why have I got bad breath?

Most cases of bad breath are linked to poor oral hygiene, which results in bacteria gathering in your mouth. When these bacteria feed, they emit gases, which smell unpleasant and this is why you get bad breath.

Many people also find that they get bad breath after drinking tea and coffee or after eating strong flavours, such as garlic and spicy curries.

Smoking is also a common cause of bad breath.

What can be done for bad breath?

If you have persistent bad breath, rather than unpleasant breath after eating specific types of food, it’s likely that there is an underlying cause. Our dentists will work to establish this cause and then find ways of solving the issues. Dental hygiene treatments are usually very effective, as they remove bacteria and plaque from the mouth and provide a really deep and intense clean. We often recommend regular hygiene sessions, which should be coupled with a thorough daily oral hygiene plan at home.

We also recommend chewing sugar-free gum after eating and avoiding triggers that you know will cause bad breath.
