Discreet Braces for All Cases

March 24th, 2015

The world of orthodontics is changing all the time and we are now able to offer every patient a discreet treatment. We are delighted to have a wide range of options available in the centre of Liverpool and we look forward to working together to create your perfect smile.

Many of our patients come to us expressing a desire for a discreet brace because they don’t want to wear a cumbersome, highly visible brace or worry about what other people will think once they get their braces fitted. In the past, braces were clearly visible. However, there are now lots of discreet options available, including:

Invisalign, Clearstep and Perfect Clear: these clear aligner treatments use specially-made, transparent plastic aligners to correct minor and moderate orthodontic issues. The aligners are virtually invisible when they are placed over the teeth and they can be taken out when you eat and brush your teeth for added convenience.

CFast, Damon Braces and Six Month Smiles: these fixed brace systems offer a more discreet alternative to traditional fixed braces. CFast and Six Month Smiles are made from clear brackets and wires, while Damon Braces are much sleeker and smaller than traditional fixed braces.

Lingual braces: lingual braces are fixed braces that sit behind the teeth to enable secret treatment. These braces offer the reliability of fixed braces and the innovation and invisibility of clear braces. With these braces, you can smile and speak without anyone knowing that you’re wearing a brace.

The Inman Aligner: the Inman Aligner is not invisible like Clearstep and Invisalign. However, it is a very discreet option and it works incredibly quickly. All that is visible when you smile is a fine metal bar.

If you’re interested in discreet orthodontic treatment and you’d like to find out which treatments would be effective, call today, pop in and see us or fill in an online enquiry form and we will get back to you. Your new smile is waiting!

Dental Phobia? We Can Help!

March 20th, 2015

Dental phobia can make even the thought of going to the dentist terrifying. At Liverpool Dental Spa, we have experience in treating anxious patients and we are a Dental Phobia certified practice.

We use the latest techniques and treatments to minimise pain and promote relaxation and comfort and our team is compassionate and understanding. Our dentists and nurses will always do their best to make every patient feel reassured and safe and nothing is too much trouble. Whether you would feel more confident meeting the staff before your visit, you’d like to look around the clinic or you’d appreciate a relaxing spa treatment before you have dental appointment, we can help.

Sedation

Sedation is a technique effective for treating nervous patients. It is used widely in medicine and dentistry as it has a relaxing effect on patients. Sedation involves the use of sedative medication to produce a deep state of calm and prevent anxiety and fear. When you are sedated, you will feel deeply relaxed and a little drowsy, as if you were falling asleep. You won’t lose consciousness and you will be able to talk to your dentist if you would like to. During the procedure, you won’t feel any pain and you won’t remember much afterwards.

The Wand painless injections

A fear of needles is one of the most common causes of dental phobia and with The Wand, we are able to make nervous patients feel more comfortable and confident. The Wand is a computer-controlled system that helps to eliminate any discomfort from having an injection. Many people are scared of having injections because they have had a painful experience in the past. This is usually due to an uneven flow of fluid or fluid being injected very quickly. The Wand, which comprises of a needle and is connected to a small computer, ensures that the flow of fluid is controlled and regulated to prevent a sudden spurt. It also looks much less threatening than a conventional needle, as it looks similar to a pen.

The Facts About Sleep Apnoea and How we Can Help

March 18th, 2015

Even the hardiest night owl can start to struggle after a stream of sleepless nights. If you’re struggling with sleep apnoea and its taking its toll on your health and happiness, we are able to help.

What is sleep apnoea?

Sleep apnoea is a condition that affects your ability to breathe while you sleep. Apnoea is a term that describes disrupted breathing caused by a blocked airway for periods of 10 seconds or longer. In severe cases, sleep apnoea can be life-threatening and it requires long-term treatment. However, in minor cases it may be possible to reduce symptoms by making lifestyle changes or using a device that improves airflow during sleep.

Lifestyle changes

In most cases, sleep apnoea is linked to being overweight and making changes in order to lose weight can be highly beneficial. These changes may include doing regular exercise and eating a healthy, balanced and calorie-controlled diet. Giving up smoking and cutting down on drinking can also have a very positive impact on sleep apnoea and snoring.

Bite guards

We provide specialist bite guards, which are worn during the night to open up the airway and increase airflow while you sleep. These bite guards are custom-made to ensure that they are a comfortable fit.

At Liverpool Dental Spa we work with local health professionals to provide effective treatments for patients who suffer from sleep disorders and facilitate healthy sleep patterns.

If you’re struggling with a lack of sleep due to sleep apnoea, don’t suffer in silence. Call us today and book a consultation.

Who Said Fillings Need to be Ugly?

March 12th, 2015

If you thought a filling would spell the end of your beautiful smile, think again! With our white fillings, we can restore your tooth, while also preserving its natural beauty.

What is a white filling?

White fillings are an increasingly popular alternative to fillings made from mercury amalgam. They are used to fill  holes that develop in the surface of the tooth as a result of decay, known as cavities. White fillings are made from resins and dental composite and they are shade matched to the natural tooth colour to ensure that they are indistinguishable from the rest of the tooth.

Fillings are an effective means of strengthening a decayed tooth and the procedure also helps to lower the risk of decay reaching other areas.

The filling procedure

The filling procedure is relatively simple and the tooth is numbed before treatment begins, so you don’t need to worry about feeling any pain. Before the cavity is filled, the decayed tissue is removed and the cavity is cleaned thoroughly. Once the cavity is clear, bonding agent is placed inside the hole and the composite is then poured inside. At this stage, the composite is soft and putty-like and it can be moulded to fit the shape of the cavity. Once the filling is in place, the composite is set hard using a curing light. This simply involves shining a light onto the tooth. Setting the composite takes just a few seconds and there’s no pain involved. All you have to do is pop on some goggles and relax. Once the filling has set, your dentist will then trim the edges to make sure of a perfect fit.

After you have a filling, your mouth will feel numb for a short period of time, but this will soon wear off. You can use your tooth as normal straightaway, but it may be best to avoid hot drinks until the numbness has subsided to prevent scalding your mouth.

If you would like to find out more about our natural looking, tooth-coloured fillings, call today and arrange an appointment.

Secret Smiles with Invisalign Treatment

March 10th, 2015

If we told you that we could create stunning smiles in secret, what would you say? It sounds too good to be true, but with Invisalign, we really can straighten crooked and crowded teeth without anybody being able to spot the tiniest glimpse of a brace. Invisalign clear aligners are the perfect option for anyone who wants the results of orthodontic treatment without any of the hassle of wearing a visible brace.

What is Invisalign and what’s so great about it?

Invisalign is a clear aligner treatment ideally suited to patients who have orthodontic issues but don’t want the stress of wearing a visible brace. With Invisalign, you don’t need to worry about how you look, the image you portray at work or what other people think, as your brace will be completely invisible.

Invisalign is a different proposition to conventional orthodontics because it uses multiple appliances rather than a single brace. Each patient receives a set of specially designed, completely bespoke aligners, which work in sequence to achieve the desired tooth movement. Each aligner works for 2 weeks.

Invisalign offers many benefits for patients of all ages. It is flexible, has very little impact on day to day life and it gives you the chance to go through the treatment process without any worries about how you look. With Invisalign, you brush your teeth, drink and eat as you would do normally and you simply swap your aligners over every 2 weeks until the series is complete and your smile is perfectly straight.

Could Invisalign be the right choice for me?

Invisalign has a wide range of uses and it is a viable option for most patients. However, it is always worth exploring all the options open to you and we can talk you through the different treatments and make suggestions once we have analysed your bite and assessed your orthodontic prescription.

It’s Not All About Teeth – We Provide Facial Treatments, Too!

March 6th, 2015

At Liverpool Dental Spa, we pride ourselves on offering an amazing array of dental treatments, but we’re not all about the teeth. We also provide incredible non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment. If you’d like radiant, youthful skin to match your gleaming smile, you’ve come to the right place!

Our facial treatments

We are proud to offer effective anti-ageing facial rejuvenation treatments to revive and reinvigorate your skin and combat lines, wrinkles and dullness. Our treatments include Botox and dermal fillers.

Botox

Botox has become a very popular solution for treating facial lines and folds and it offers a very simple and convenient process and impressive results without the need for recovery time. Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A, which is injected into problem areas of the skin to target lines and smooth the skin. It achieves this goal by preventing muscle contraction in the facial muscles by blocking nerve signals. Once the muscles relax, this causes lines to soften, making them less visible. Popular areas for Botox treatment include the forehead, around the eyes and between the nose and mouth.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are another popular solution for facial lines, but they are also an effective treatment for people who have experienced loss of fullness in the skin and sagging. Fillers can help to combat loss of collagen, the fibre that gives the skin its structure and firmness and create a more youthful, radiant look. Fillers can also add definition to the face and enhance the features to create a beautiful aesthetic. We can use fillers to bring out the cheekbones and jaw line and to add volume to the lips. Like Botox, fillers are injected into the skin in targeted areas. Treatment only takes around 20-30 minutes and the results appear a few days after treatment.

Both Botox and fillers produce temporary effects that last around 6-9 months.

Restore Your Smile in Time for the Summer

March 4th, 2015

At Liverpool Dental Spa, we offer a wide range of restorative solutions for all your dental woes. Whether you have broken, chipped or worn teeth, a decayed tooth or have lost teeth as a result of an accident, we can help to restore your smile in time for the summer.

About restorative dentistry

Restorative dentistry is the field of dentistry concerned with repairing damaged, decayed and broken teeth. The teeth are sturdy and strong, but they can be damaged through injury or decay. If you do damage a tooth, it’s always best to get it treated to prevent further harm in the future.

We use a range of restorative techniques and restorations to produce amazing results. These include veneers, composite bonding, white fillings, dental crowns, bridges and dental implants.

Which treatment will suit me best?

Usually the choice of treatment will be dictated by your dental needs. For example, if you have a missing tooth you will have different options to somebody who has a chipped tooth.

Treatment options for missing teeth include dental implants, dental bridges and dentures, while options for repairing damaged teeth include dental crowns, composite bonding, inlays and onlays and veneers. If you have a decayed tooth and there is a cavity (a hole) in the surface of the tooth, the best course of action is usually to place a filling in the cavity.

The benefits of restorative dentistry

Restorative dentistry not only strengthens and protects the teeth, it also makes the smile look more attractive. It can also help to reduce the risk of oral health problems.

If your teeth would benefit from our amazing restorative dental treatments, call now and book an appointment. We’ll have you beaming in time to enjoy a summer of fun!

Say Goodbye to Gum Disease for Good!

March 2nd, 2015

Spring is almost here and it’s time to plan holidays and start looking forward to hazy evenings and barbeques. The last thing you want this summer is to spend your days nursing sore gums and battling gum disease and this is why we are on a mission to banish gum disease for good!

What is gum disease?

Gum disease is a common oral disease caused by damaging bacteria that produce acids that aggravate the gums and cause them to become very painful and inflamed. Gum disease is largely preventable and in the early stages, it can be reversed fairly easily. However, it can become more advanced quite quickly and we always recommend early treatment.

Gingivitis is the milder kind of gum disease. The most common signs to look out for include bleeding gums (usually noticeable when you brush your teeth and spit into the sink), swelling and soreness. The advanced type of gum disease is known as periodontal disease or periodontitis and it is much more difficult to treat. This form of gum disease causes irreparable damage not just on the gums, but also to the bone tissue that works to support the teeth. Signs of advanced gum disease include pockets between the teeth and gums, loose teeth, abscesses, an unpleasant taste in the mouth and eventually tooth loss.

When to see a dentist

We recommend routine check-ups every six months, but if you spot potential warning signs of gum disease, it’s best to get in touch as soon as you can so that we can check your gums out and provide any treatment as soon as possible. If you notice bleeding or swelling, don’t wait until your next check-up. Call us and we will book you in as soon as possible. This way, we can make sure that any problems are treated before the situation gets worse.

Preventing gum disease

At Liverpool Dental Spa, we aim to offer our patients the best possible chance of achieving healthy teeth and gums. We urge patients of all ages to attend regular dental checks-ups, we offer preventative and oral hygiene treatments and we are always here to offer advice about oral hygiene at home, foods to avoid for good oral health and giving up smoking.

No More Tooth Decay Troubles With our Hygiene Treatments

February 26th, 2015

Tooth decay affects thousands of children and adults in the UK every year, but it is preventable and our amazing hygiene treatments can help to ensure that your teeth remain healthy and cavity-free.

Regular check-ups are essential, but we also recommend seeing a hygienist to give the teeth and gums a deep clean and ensure your smile looks healthy and bright. You can now book appointments directly with our friendly, experienced hygienists.

What do hygienists do?

Hygienists are experts in dental hygiene and they offer a range of treatments designed to treat and prevent dental diseases, including decay and gum disease.

Hygienists offer preventative treatments such as scale and polish, an intensive cleaning treatment designed to remove traces of bacteria and plaque and polish the teeth to give them a radiant glow. We also offer fluoride varnish and fissure sealant treatment. We often recommend fissure sealant and fluoride varnish treatment for children as a means of reducing the risk of decay. Both procedures are quick, simple and painless and they can really make a difference.

Do I need to see a hygienist if I have healthy teeth?

Seeing a hygienist has benefits for all patients including those who have a clean bill of oral health, as they  provide preventative services to ensure that the teeth and gums remain healthy and strong. If you have symptoms of decay or gum disease, we may advise you to see a hygienist more frequently as part of your treatment plan.

If you’d like to book an appointment with our hygienists or you’d simply like to find out more about the treatments and their benefits, call us today.
