Super Whitening for Sparkling Smiles

April 28th, 2015

If a sparkling smile is what you’re after, you’re in the best hands at Liverpool Dental Spa. With our amazing whitening treatments, you’ll be showing off a gorgeous gleaming smile in no time!

We have tried and tested a number of whitening methods in order to ensure we brig you the best and we are delighted to offer convenient home whitening treatment in addition to express in-chair treatments and Enlighten, the world’s leading whitening system and the only treatment available in the UK to produce B1, the lightest tooth shade.

Home whitening

Home whitening is a great choice for anyone with a hectic work or social schedule, as it fits in around your daily plans. Treatment usually lasts for 14 days and the process couldn’t be simpler. Before you start treatment, we invite you to a consultation and we go through the process with you, explain how it works and what you need to do. We will also have a look at your teeth to check that treatment is suitable for you. We then use dental putty to create impressions of your teeth, which are used to make whitening trays. These trays match the imprint of your teeth perfectly for a comfortable fit and they contain bleaching agent that whitens the teeth on contact.

When you get home, simply wear the whitening trays for six hours per day every day for 14 days. Many clients choose to wear the trays at night, so that they continue with day to day life as normal.

Enlighten

Enlighten is a whitening phenomenon and it could bring you a beaming, bright smile right here in the heart of Liverpool. This highly effective system uses a combination of treatment methods to achieve dazzling results that last a long time. For the first 14 days of treatment, you wear tailor-made Enlighten whitening trays at home and on the 15th day, you come in and see us for a one-hour whitening boost. We encourage you to lie back and relax while the whitening agent we apply to the teeth works its magic. The whitening agent is activated using a light, and an hour later you’ll have a beautiful new smile. We will be happy to put some music or a film on for you.

Soothing Dental Phobia for Anxious Patients

April 26th, 2015

Dental phobia is among the most common phobias in the UK. If you suffer from extreme anxiety when you think about going to the dentist or have a phobia of needles, the dental drill or even dentists, we can help! We are a Dental Phobia Certified practice and our compassionate team has experience in providing gentle dentistry in a relaxed, comfortable setting.

We use the latest tricks and techniques to prevent pain during dental procedures and we are always here every step of the way to help you to build confidence and gradually overcome your fears.

Some of the techniques we use include:

Sedation

Sedation is commonly used in both dentistry and medicine as a means of helping patients to relax while they have treatment. Sedation doesn’t make you lose consciousness, like general anaesthetic. However, it does induce a sleep-like state, which ensures that you feel completely calm and comfortable. While you are sedated you will have a low level of awareness, you won’t feel any pain and you will feel sleepy. You can talk to your dentist if you wish to at any time and you will be able to hear them. After sedation, it’s normal not to remember much about the procedure.

The Wand

The Wand is a technique we use to deliver painless injections. It looks similar to a pen and it is connected to and controlled by a small computer. The aim of The Wand is to eliminate pain caused by rapid or uneven flow of fluid through a needle. Many people dread having injections because they have suffered pain in the past. With this innovation, the speed of the flow of fluid is controlled by the computer, so there is no risk of a sudden, uncomfortable burst. The Wand is suitable for adults and children and it can be really beneficial for those who suffer from dental anxiety as a result of a fear of injections.

If you’d like to find out more about our services for nervous patients, have a look around the clinic or meet with our dental team, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

What Exactly is Cerec Technology?

April 24th, 2015

You may have heard dentists talking about the wonders of Cerec, but what exactly is Cerec and how could it benefit patients in Liverpool?

What exactly is Cerec?

Cerec is a form of advanced dental technology that gives dentists the ability to design and crate new bespoke restorations on-site. The process is incredibly quick and the technology takes care of all aspects of treatment, from the initial imaging and planning to the manufacture. Traditionally, patients who need a new crown or inlay visit their dentist and two weeks later, they have their restoration fitted. The stage in between takes place at a dental laboratory, where technicians use impressions of the tooth created by dentists, to make the new restoration. With Cerec, the entire process takes place at the clinic and the new restoration can be fitted in the same day.

Cerec uses images of the teeth captured by a digital camera to form new restorations. At the first stage, the images are converted into models by state of the art design software. These designs are then sent to the milling machine and the manufacturing process takes place. The bespoke restoration is ready in minutes and it is then fitted by your dentist.

What are the advantages of Cerec?

There are lots of advantages of Cerec treatment for dental patients and dentists. The speed of treatment is greatly reduced from two weeks to a single session and there is no need for temporary restorations, multiple treatments or putty impressions. These can be uncomfortable for some patients who have a sensitive gag reflex. The process is more accurate, everything can be done under the same roof and dentists can exert more influence at the design stage.

We are able to use Cerec to create same-day custom-designed crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers. If you would like to find out more about sensational Cerec, call us today and make an appointment.

What Causes Snoring, and How Can It Be Stopped?

April 22nd, 2015

If you regularly wake during the night due to snoring or are living with a snorer and it’s making life difficult, we can help.

What causes snoring?

Snoring occurs when the soft tissue at the back of the mouth vibrates. It causes grunting, snorting and heavy breathing noises. Often, snoring is nothing to worry about, but if it keeps you or other people from enjoying a good night’s sleep on a regular basis, it may be worth thinking about seeking help. Sleep is so important because it enables us to rest and recharge our batteries ready for the next day. If you miss out on sleep on a frequent basis, it can lead to daytime tiredness, irritability, low energy levels and loss of focus and concentration.

There are various risk factors for snoring, which include:

  • being overweight
  • living a sedentary lifestyle
  • smoking
  • allergies
  • respiratory illnesses, such as asthma
  • drinking alcohol
  • sleeping on your back

What can be done to stop snoring?

Often, snoring can be helped by addressing some of the risk factors listed above and this may involve making very minor changes to your sleeping routine and your lifestyle choices. Losing weight, cutting down on alcohol (especially during the evenings) and taking up regular exercise can all make a huge difference. Giving up smoking is also really beneficial for sleep, as well as your general health and wellbeing.

In cases where snoring is linked to allergies, taking medication can help to ease symptoms. It may also be beneficial to invest in hypoallergenic bedding.

If snoring is linked to a lack of air flow while you sleep, we can provide a specialist custom-made bite guard that helps to keep the airway open while you sleep, increasing the amount of oxygen flowing into the body.

If you’re struggling with snoring, call us today. We could help to banish noisy nights and restore peace for good.

The Perks of Perfect Clear Braces

April 14th, 2015

Today, most orthodontic patients come to us with one dream: a beautiful smile with minimal fuss. With Perfect Clear, we can achieve this goal. Perfect Clear braces are a swift, discreet alternative to traditional fixed braces and they could be the ideal solution if you’ve been searching for a system that straightens the teeth with minimal impact on the look of your smile during the treatment phase.

What is Perfect Clear?

Perfect Clear is an invisible brace system that uses custom-made K positioners to straighten the teeth. These positioners are made from high-grade, ultra light clear plastic and they glide onto the teeth in a similar way to a mouth guard worn for sport. Each patient is given a series of clear positioners at the start of their treatment, and these appliances work in order. Each one is slightly different and over time, the teeth move into the correct position.

What are the advantages of Perfect Clear?

The major benefit for most patients is the level of discretion, as these positioners are virtually impossible to spot when you smile. As they are removable, treatment is also very convenient and you can take the positioners out to eat and drink, and brush your teeth as normal. There’s no need to worry about having to navigate a brush around bands and brackets. Many people like the flexibility and freedom of a removable brace.

The results of treatment are another great selling-point. After treatment, you can expect to be greeted with a beautifully straight set of bright pearly whites when you look in the mirror.

Do Perfect Clear braces hurt?

Like all braces, it can take a little white to get used to wearing Perfect Clear aligners. However, these braces use gentle forces and advanced technology to promote patient comfort and once you’ve been wearing your braces for a few days, you’ll barely notice they’re there.

What To Do If You Have Gum Disease

April 10th, 2015

If you’ve noticed bleeding when you brush your teeth or you have swollen or sore gums, this may be indicative of gum disease and it’s a good idea to see a dentist. We have treatments available to prevent and treat mild and advanced forms of gum disease.

About gum disease

Gum disease is an oral disease caused by bacteria and characterised by painful, inflamed and bleeding gums. Gingivitis, the mild form of gum disease, is usually relatively easy to treat with the use of oral hygiene treatments. However, advanced gum disease, known as periodontitis or periodontal disease, is much more difficult to treat as it causes permanent effects.

Gum disease gets worse with time, so it’s highly beneficial to act quickly if you notice any warning signs. Symptoms include swelling, tenderness and pain in the gums, and bleeding when you clean your teeth.

What to do if you have gum disease

If you notice any of the symptoms listed above, call the clinic and we will make you an appointment. Pay attention to oral hygiene, keep an eye on your diet and avoid excessive sugar consumption. When you see your dentist, they will examine your teeth and gums, and then discuss any issues with you. If you need treatment, your dentist will talk to you about your options, which may include improved oral hygiene at home or cleaning treatments provided by a dental hygienist.

How can I prevent gum disease?

Gum disease is very common, but it’s also preventable. A good daily oral hygiene regime combined with healthy eating and regular dental trips should go a long way to keeping the harmful bacteria responsible for gum disease at arm’s length. If you have any questions or you’d like to find out more about gum disease prevention, our team will be happy to help!

Children’s Check-Ups Keep Cavities at Bay

April 8th, 2015

Recent news headlines have highlighted high rates of decay among the UK’s children and at Liverpool Dental Spa, we’re determined to do our bit to keep cavities at bay and ensure our younger patients have healthy, bright smiles. We strongly advise parents to bring their children for regular check-ups and we also have a range of preventative treatments on offer.

Children’s check-ups

Check-ups are essential for patients of all ages and we advise parents to start bringing children to the clinic for routine dental checks from the age of 12-24 months. Check-ups are quick and simple, but they really make a difference to oral health. Our friendly team is experienced in caring for children and we go the extra mile to make your child’s time with us fun, stress-free and enjoyable, so that they can’t wait to come back in six month’s time!

During a check-up, your dentist will have a close look at the child’s teeth and gums and look out for any possible problems, such as cavities or staining. Your dentist will also record details about the development of the teeth in your child’s records. If there are any problems, such as early signs of tooth decay, we can then discuss treatment options with you and ensure any issues are dealt with quickly to prevent pain and make sure the situation doesn’t get any worse.

How often should my child see a dentist?

We usually recommend six monthly check-ups for children and adults. However, if your child complains of toothache or pain, call and arrange an appointment sooner and we’ll do everything we can to get them fighting fit again.

If you have any questions about children’s oral health or you’d like to find out about our services, which include fluoride varnish and fissure sealant treatment, don’t hesitate to give us a ring or pop in and see us.

Da Vinci Veneers are Durable and Delicate

April 2nd, 2015

Da Vinci veneers have been leading the way in stunning smile design for over 25 years and if you’re dreaming of a flawless smile, this could be the perfect choice. A firm favourite with celebrities, Da Vinci veneers are durable, delicate and capable of achieving your dream smile!

About Da Vinci veneers

Da Vinci veneers are one of the most effective cosmetic dental treatments on the market and they have been helping to transform smiles and make people feel more confident for a quarter of a century. These ultra-thin veneers are more durable than traditional porcelain veneers and they are also thinner, which makes for a less invasive treatment process.

Da Vinci veneers are resistant to staining and although they are very thin and delicate, they are also robust.

Who can benefit from Da Vinci veneers?

There are a host of benefits on offer for patients who choose to have Da Vinci veneers and they are an excellent option for anyone who is looking to improve the aesthetic of their smile. These beautiful veneers can be used to address common aesthetic issues, including stained or discoloured teeth, worn surfaces, uneven edges, spaces between the teeth and misalignment.

Veneers don’t just transform the look of the smile, they can also have major benefits for your self-esteem.

How long does treatment take?

We can usually complete Da Vinci veneer treatment in two to three sessions, which take place two weeks apart. The first sessions are used to plan treatment and prepare the teeth, while the second session is used to fit the veneers. As Da Vinci veneers are very thin, preparation is minimal and simply involves taking away an incredibly thin layer of the tooth surface. This makes space for the veneers and helps to create a natural look. Once your bespoke veneers are ready, they can then be secured onto the teeth using dental adhesive.

If you’re dreaming of a sparkly smile this spring, what are you waiting for? Call us today to book your consultation!

Family dentistry lies at the heart of what we do and we offer terrific treatments for adults and children. We are proud to champion the belief that prevention is better than cure and we offer an array of general dental treatments in addition to the latest cosmetic, restorative and orthodontic services.

Children’s dentistry at Liverpool Dental Spa

Dental care is so important for children and we love to welcome young patients to our clinic. We have a very caring and warm approach and we  make children feel safe and comfortable and to prevent them from feeling scared. We know that the sound of dental drills and whirring instruments can be pretty frightening, but we’re here to make every dental trip fun and ensure that kids look forward to going to the dentist. We’ve got toys, books and films aplenty and our dentists are always willing to give children a tour, answer their questions and show them how to keep their teeth and gums healthy.

In addition to routine check-ups, we also offer preventative services for children, including fluoride varnish and fissure sealant treatment. These simple, painless treatments can make a massive difference to children’s oral health by reducing the risks of tooth decay. Fissure sealant treatment creates a sealant barrier between the pits in the surface of the tooth and food debris and bacteria, while fluoride varnish strengthens the enamel.

Whatever your needs, we are here to help! We have an experienced dental team and a beautifully designed clinic.
