Crowning the Success of Our Restorative Dental Treatments

July 24th, 2015

Even the healthiest teeth can fall foul to injuries and accidents, but at Liverpool Dental Spa we have a host of restorative options to patch up chips and worn edges, repair fractures and ensure you can smile with confidence again. Our dentists are highly skilled in restorative dentistry and we use only the finest quality materials and the latest techniques to produce amazing results with minimal pain.

Our restorative treatments

We offer a range of restorative treatments to repair damaged and decayed teeth, patch up injuries and replace lost teeth. Our treatment options include:

  • CEREC same-day restorative treatment: we are fortunate to have CEREC technology on-site. This gives us the ability to offer same-day bespoke restorative treatment. With CEREC we can design, manufacture and place new veneers, crowns, inlays and onlays all in one day without having to send impressions away or fit temporary measures. CEREC vastly reduces treatment time and it also makes treatment more convenient for patients with hectic schedules. The process is also cleaner and more accurate than traditional methods.
  • Porcelain crowns: as well as same-day CEREC crowns, we also offer hand-crafted porcelain crowns, which sit on top of the teeth to offer protection and make the tooth more robust. Crowns are recommended when a tooth is broken or decayed and they can also be attached to dental implants as part of a tooth replacement. Porcelain crowns match the shade of healthy natural teeth and last for up to five years.
  • White fillings: fillings are placed when a cavity forms in the surface of the tooth. Cavities are holes often caused by acid erosion of the enamel. Fillings help to stem the spread of infection and white fillings restore the teeth without affecting the way it looks.
  • Dental bridges: bridges are a popular tooth replacement treatment for single gaps. They consist of a false tooth fused to a new crown on either side. Bridges can be made from metals or ceramics and they last up to 15 years. Bridge treatment usually involves two sessions.
  • Dentures: dentures are an effective means of replacing multiple missing teeth. They are sets of false teeth that look like natural teeth and enable you to speak and eat with ease and confidence. Dentures are custom-made and are secured by the natural suction of the gums.
  • Dental implants: implants offer a versatile solution to patients with tooth loss, as they can be used to replace single and multiple missing teeth. Implants are small devices made from titanium and are placed inside small holes in the jaw bone and then attached to a crown, bridge or denture once settled. Implants offer the same standard of stability and functionality as natural tooth roots and are an excellent long-term option.

Invisalign is Perfect for Patients on the Go

July 22nd, 2015

We understand that many of our clients have hectic work and social schedules and this is why we’re always on the lookout for innovations, which offer convenience and flexibility. Invisalign is an incredible orthodontic system, which fits in with your daily routine and makes the process of achieving a stunning straight smile as easy and stress-free as possible.

Everything you need to know about Invisalign

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic system, which is a great option for patients who are always on the go. This system uses a set of specially designed removable appliances, called aligners, to move the teeth, creating a perfectly aligned smile with minimal impact on your day to day life.

Invisalign aligners are custom-designed for each individual patient and they are very easy to use; they glide into position over the teeth and they can be taken out very quickly and easily when you eat and brush your teeth. Invisalign aligners look like very delicate gum shields and they are made from clear plastic, making them virtually invisible to others.

The treatment process

The treatment process for Invisalign is slightly different to other treatments because it involves using multiple aligners, rather than a single brace. Each Invisalign patient receives a set of bespoke aligners, which are manufactured based on a detailed personalised treatment plan. Each aligner is worn for 2 weeks and the aligners work in sequence. Patients are advised to take the aligner out to eat and clean the teeth; although they are removable, which gives you greater flexibility, it is important to wear the aligners for around 22 hours per day to ensure the best results.

Is Invisalign for me?

If you’re looking for a simple, effective, discreet and comfortable solution for mild or moderate orthodontic issues, Invisalign could be the perfect match. Call us today to arrange a consultation and our expert dentists will talk you through the treatment and check that this is a suitable option for you.

Getting to the Bottom of Bad Breath

July 20th, 2015

Bad breath can be an embarrassing problem, especially if it affects you on a daily basis. But there are solutions out there and our highly trained team has extensive experience in fighting bad breath and helping patients who suffer with halitosis to feel more confident. If you have bad breath, don’t suffer in silence – the Liverpool Dental Spa team is here to help!

Getting to the bottom of bad breath: what causes it?

Bad breath is caused by bacteria that multiply in the mouth and release odorous gases when they feed. The most common cause of bad breath is poor oral hygiene, which enables bacteria to collect in the mouth, particularly at the back of the tongue. Smoking, eating certain foods and taking some types of medication can also contribute to bad breath.

In some cases, bad breath only crops up when you eat certain foods and if this is the case, it may be best to keep a food diary so that you can pin down which foods are giving you trouble and avoid them in the future. We also recommend chewing sugar-free gum after eating.

How we tackle bad breath

In persistent cases of bad breath, we usually recommend a series of dental hygiene sessions teamed with good oral hygiene at home. Our dental hygienists use the latest tools and techniques to achieve a really deep clean that gets rid of stubborn plaque and tartar and makes the mouth feel lovely and fresh. In addition to providing regular cleaning treatments, our hygienists can also offer advice to help you improve your oral hygiene regime at home and reduce the risk of bad breath recurring in the future. They can also help with diet and additional risk factors such as smoking.

At Liverpool Dental Spa, we understand that some patients feel nervous and embarrassed when they have issues like bad breath, but we assure you that we deal with such issues on a daily basis and we are here to help you. We have an exceptionally friendly team and we look forward to working with you to boost your confidence and banish bad breath for good.

Facial Rejuvenation Treatments for a Stress-Free Summer

July 16th, 2015

The last thing you want to be dealing with this summer is stress, so why not treat yourself to a completely hassle-free facial treatment to kick-start the summer with gorgeous glowing skin? With our non-surgical facial aesthetic treatments, you can enjoy a clear, bright and youthful complexion with no pain, no recovery time and absolutely no stress.

Our facial rejuvenation treatments

We offer an array of the latest facial rejuvenation treatments including Botox, Restylane and Juvederm filler treatments. The aim of treatment is to reduce the visibility of signs of ageing and create younger looking, radiant skin.

Botox treatment is one of the most popular anti-ageing treatments around and it is particularly effective in dealing with lines and wrinkles. Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A, which is injected into the skin in very small quantities to create smoother skin. Botox softens wrinkles by preventing muscle contraction in the facial muscles. It does this by preventing the transmission of nerve signals from the brain to the muscles, causing them to relax and the skin to soften. Botox can be used in several areas of the face, including the forehead, around the eyes and between the nose and the mouth. It is up to you which areas you have treated. The procedure is very swift and simple and all we do is use a very find needle to inject a carefully controlled amount of Botox into the desired areas. This usually takes just 15-30 minutes and the results start to become visible around 48 hours later. The effects of Botox treatment should last around 3-6 months.

Fillers are a versatile facial treatment that not only offer anti-ageing benefits, but also help to enhance and define the facial features, including the cheekbones and the jaw line. Both Juvederm and Restylane treatments use ingredients that occur naturally in the body to boost skin hydration and volume. Like Botox, filler treatment is temporary and the procedure is short and very easy. We can also use fillers to create fuller lips.

If you’re interested in non-invasive facial treatment, why not call us today and book a session to give your summer skin some TLC?

What is Root Canal Treatment and When is it Necessary?

July 10th, 2015

Normally, if you bring up root canal treatment in conversation, you’ll be greeted with anxious faces. But at Liverpool Dental Spa, we do our best to assure patients that root canal treatment is nothing to worry about and this effective procedure can actually make the difference between losing and saving a tooth.

What exactly is root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment is a general dental procedure designed to remove decayed tissue and help prevent the spread of infection. It is called upon when a dental infection has reached the living tissue of the tooth, known as the pulp. Once the pulp becomes infected, blood supply to the tooth is reduced and this increases the risk of further infection and the development of painful abscesses. Root canal treatment helps to stem infection and create a stronger, healthier tooth.

The procedure has something of a bad reputation, but we can assure you that you will be absolutely fine. In fact, many of our patients leave the practice and wonder what all the fuss was about. Before you have treatment, your tooth will be numbed completely to minimise discomfort. Once the local anaesthetic has taken effect, your dentist will drill into the tooth and start clearing decayed tissue from the root canals. It’s important to clean the tooth thoroughly to get rid of any potentially harmful bacteria and debris. Once the root canals have been cleared, they are then filled with gutta percha (a type of dental material) and sealed. Sealing the root canals helps to prevent the spread of infection.

Usually, after root canal treatment, it is a good idea to place a new crown to reinforce the tooth and offer even greater protection.  we usually place a temporary crown following the procedure and then the permanent crown around two weeks later.

Is there an alternative to root canal treatment?

Usually, root canal treatment is only required when the tooth is already damaged or decayed extensively and the only other option is to extract it.

Makeover Your Smile with Luxurious Lumineers

July 8th, 2015

If you’re searching for a treatment to makeover your smile with a touch of luxury, Lumineers could be the perfect choice. These high grade veneers have an outstanding reputation for producing beautiful, radiant smiles.

About Lumineers

Lumineers are a type of veneer that provide natural-looking aesthetics for a bright and beautiful smile. These veneers are different to other veneers because they are made from a patented ceramic material specially formulated in the USA by Cerinate. Lumineers are incredibly thin, but they are also very durable and they last up to twice as long as other veneers.

Lumineer treatment

Normally with veneers, the teeth require preparation before the veneers are placed to make space for the new shells. However, with Lumineers, as the veneers are so thin, minimal preparation is required. Your dentist will gently etch the tooth surfaces to ready them for the veneers and the Lumineers can then be bonded onto the teeth to create a stunning new smile. Treatment involves two sessions only: one session to check your teeth and create impressions and a second session to fit your bespoke Lumineers.

The benefits of Lumineers

Lumineers offer many benefits for those looking to transform the appearance of their smile. These veneers look incredible but they are also very strong, so they represent a really good investment. They should last around 20 years, so you can enjoy a beautiful, timeless smile. As Lumineers are so thin and light, preparation is minimal and this means the structure of the tooth remains intact. This not only prevents weakening, it also means that treatment is reversible. Lumineers are also versatile and they can solve a variety of common aesthetic problems including chipped and worn teeth, gaps between the teeth and staining.

If you like the sound of Lumineers, why not call us today and treat yourself to a brand new bright smile in time for summer?

Wonderful Whitening Treatments for a Sparkling Summer

July 6th, 2015

At Liverpool Dental Spa, we believe nothing sets you up for a sparkling summer like a bright white smile and we have a wide range of whitening treatments available to suit all budgets. One of our most popular cosmetic dental treatments is Enlighten, a system widely regarded as the most effective whitening treatment on the planet. If you dream of a Hollywood style smile, look no further than Enlighten.

What is Enlighten and what does treatment involve?

Enlighten is a professional whitening treatment that combines the best aspects of at-home and in-chair treatment to create truly amazing results. This system is currently the only treatment on the market to achieve shade B1, the lightest shade available in the UK.

For the first 14 days of treatment, Enlighten patients wear a bespoke whitening tray, which contains Enlighten whitening agent, at home. The tray is perfectly comfortable, as it is designed to fit the contours of your mouth and you only have to wear them during the night. After the 14th day, you will pop in and see is for your in-chair whitening session. This takes around an hour and is a chance for you to lie back and relax, as there’s absolutely no pain involved. We simply apply whitening agent to your teeth and then shine a lamp onto the teeth to activate the gel. An hour later, your smile will look beautifully bright and the results will last for years to come.

Wy10

We also offer Wy10 whitening, which is a simple and quick whitening system suited to patients with sensitive teeth and offers you the chance to enjoy amazing results without leaving the house. Patients are advised how to use Wy10 before they begin treatment and treatment time is around 15-30 minutes twice a day, every day for approximately 20 days. Each patient receives a Wy10 kit, which contains trays and syringes filled with whitening agent. You simply inject the agent into the trays and then wear the trays for the specified time.

If you would like more information about our whitening treatments, don’t hesitate to give us a ring or call in if you’re in Liverpool.

Fixed Braces vs. Removable Braces

July 2nd, 2015

If you’re wondering about having orthodontic treatment, you may have come across fixed and removable braces during your research, but which option is better and what are the pros and cons of each? Here is a brief guide to fixed and removable braces:

Fixed braces

Fixed braces have been used to straighten the teeth and iron out orthodontic issues for many decades and they are proven to work extremely effectively. Today, there are lots of different types of fixed brace out there and advances in technology and design mean that you can now enjoy the reliability and efficacy of fixed braces with additional aesthetic benefits, speed and improved comfort. Fixed braces are often recommended for patients who have moderate or complex orthodontic needs, as they can generate a lot of movement and they provide more support than removable braces. Although fixed braces are less discreet than clear aligners and more difficult to clean, they are proven to work in every case and you will quickly become accustomed to eating, brushing your teeth and drinking with them in place.

Examples of our amazing fixed brace treatments include:

  • CFast
  • Six Month Smiles
  • Damon Braces
  • MTM No Trace Brace (these are lingual braces, which are secured onto the back of the teeth)

Removable braces

Removable braces have become very popular because they offer greater convenience and discreet aesthetics. Removable aligners allow you to continue with life as normal without having to worry about adapting the way you clean your teeth or eat and they are often very discreet, sometimes even virtually invisible. Removable braces also give you more freedom, but this can be a blessing in disguise, as the success of treatment depends on you ensuring that you wear the braces for the recommended time each day. Removable braces are generally recommended for patients who only require a limited amount of movement.

Examples of our revolutionary removable braces include:

  • Invisalign
  • Inman Aligner
  • Clearstep
  • Perfect Clear

Which treatment is best for me?

Often, your dental needs will dictate which treatment options are most suitable and once we have assessed your bite and had a good look at your teeth, we will be happy to make recommendations and help you choose the perfect treatment based on what you are looking for from your treatment, how much movement is required and the level of intensity and any additional factors you want to consider, such as treatment fees and time.

How is Gum Disease Treated?

June 26th, 2015

Gum disease is one of the most common oral diseases around and it causes premature tooth loss in the most advanced cases. At Liverpool Dental Spa, one of our main aims is to prevent patients from suffering from gum disease. To do this we offer a range of preventative treatments as well as remedies and therapies to treat existing signs of gingivitis and periodontal disease.

A brief guide to gum disease

Gum disease affects thousands of adults in the UK and it is currently the most common cause of premature tooth loss. This potentially serious disease is caused by bacteria that collect and multiply in the mouth and combine with food debris and saliva to form plaque, a white film-like substance that sticks to the outer surfaces of the teeth and the gum line. When bacteria feed, they release acids that irritate the gums. This results in soreness, redness, tenderness and swelling. You may also notice that your gums bleed, especially when you brush your teeth. Gingivitis is the name given to mild gum disease, while periodontal disease is the advanced form of gum disease.

Treating gum disease

If we catch gum disease early, there is a good chance we can treat it before it causes any permanent damage. However, it is possible for gingivitis to develop into periodontal disease and at this stage, the bone structure that supports the teeth and gums is also affected.

Treatment for gingivitis usually involves deep cleaning provided by dentists and dental hygienists. You may be advised to attend a series of sessions to ensure the mouth is completely clean and prevent infection from recurring. We will also provide oral hygiene tips to help you maintain good oral hygiene at home.

In the case of periodontal disease, the damage is irreversible. However, it is possible to try and ease symptoms and prevent the disease from becoming more advanced. We recommend regular dental hygiene sessions coupled with dental visits and we provide intensive cleaning to remove bacteria, plaque and tartar from the mouth and help to stem the spread of infection. We use treatments such as scale and polish and root planing to minimise danger and we have a long-term commitment to helping patients fight gum disease.
