Invisible Treatment with Invisalign Aligners

August 28th, 2015

One of the most important and popular innovations in recent years has been the introduction of the invisible brace. Now, we are able to straighten teeth with minimal impact on the look of your smile during the treatment process. Thanks to incredible treatments like Invisalign, you can obtain the smile of your dreams without anyone even knowing you’ve been wearing a brace!

About Invisalign treatment

Invisalign is an invisible brace system that offers you the opportunity to undergo treatment in secret. Unlike most other braces, this system involves using a series of custom-designed clear aligners that work to straighten your teeth without making you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed about your brace. The aligners are made from high-grade clear plastic and slide over the teeth in a similar way to a mouth guard worn for sport. Once they are in position over the teeth they are barely visible, so nobody will be able to spot them when you smile.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign aligners work in sequence. Each patient receives their own set of custom-fit aligners, which are fabricated based on a personalised treatment plan. The aligners are all different and are shaped to allow room for movement. The appliances generate forces that gently reposition and align the teeth. Each aligner stays in place for two weeks.

Invisalign aligners are comfortable and give you flexibility as you can remove them quickly and easily when you want to eat, drink or brush your teeth. We recommend wearing the aligners for at least 21 hours each day to ensure the best possible results.

Is Invisalign for me?

Invisalign is generally suited to those with minor or moderate issues and is an excellent choice for those wishing to enjoy convenience, comfort and discretion. If you like the sound of Invisalign and have been dreaming of an invisible solution for orthodontic problems, call today and we’ll have you beaming in no time!

What are Lumineers?

August 26th, 2015

If you’ve been dreaming of a perfect white smile for a long time, Lumineers could be just what you’ve been looking for. These beautifully designed veneers are famed for creating truly beautiful smiles, so why not treat your teeth to some TLC and call us today?

What are Lumineers?

Lumineers are a type of veneer made from specially designed, patented pressed ceramic. They are made by Cerinate in the USA and offer style as well as substance. In addition to producing natural looking aesthetics, Lumineers are also hard-wearing and last up to twice as long as regular porcelain veneers.

Lumineers are also incredibly thin, which means the treatment process is simpler and quicker as minimal preparation is required. Usually, the teeth are prepared before treatment, but with Lumineers the veneers can often be bonded directly onto the teeth. This eliminates discomfort and ensures that the tooth structure remains intact.

Who can benefit from Lumineers?

Lumineers are capable of treating a whole range of issues, including:

  • Stained teeth that are unsuitable for teeth whitening treatment
  • Small gaps between the smile
  • Worn, eroded edges
  • Unbalanced and uneven teeth
  • Chips and minor breaks

With Lumineers we can transform the look of your smile in a matter of weeks, with no pain at all and the promise of incredible results that will last around 20 years.

We often find that patients who have cosmetic flaws feel self conscious about their smile and Lumineers can really help to build confidence and ensure clients feel much more comfortable when they show their teeth. We believe that everyone has a right to love their smile and we are confident that we can make this dream come true with Lumineers.

If you like the sound of Lumineers, why not give us a call or visit us if you’re passing?

Advantages and Disadvantages of White Fillings

August 24th, 2015

White fillings are becoming increasingly popular, but are they better than amalgam fillings and should you get your old fillings replaced with them?

The pros and cons of white fillings

White fillings are used to treat tooth decay. They are placed inside cavities (holes in the outer layer of the tooth) to stem the spread of infection and strengthen the tooth. White fillings are so called because they are made from a white material called dental composite, which is combined with resins. We are happy to fit new or replacement fillings and can remove old metal fillings and swap them for discreet white fillings. We also provide white fillings as part of a smile makeover for those planning a brand new look.

The advantages of white fillings

White fillings offer a number of advantages, including:

  • Natural looking aesthetics: white fillings protect the teeth without detracting from the natural tooth aesthetic. When the filling is in place, you won’t be able to notice it.
  • Safety: white fillings are made from safe materials that pose no risk to human health. Many people have concerns about using mercury in the body, which is why white fillings are often used in place of amalgam fillings.
  • Environmental friendliness: white fillings are more environmentally friendly than mercury amalgam fillings.
  • A simple treatment process: This procedure can be completed in just an hour.
  • Comfortable treatment: Your filling will be placed under local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel a thing.

The disadvantages of white fillings

The only real disadvantage of white fillings in comparison to mercury fillings is the strength of the filling. Metals are more hard-wearing and durable than white fillings. However, materials are advancing all the time and a white filling should last for around 5 years. Mercury fillings tend to last longer, with an average lifespan of 10-15 years.

If you would like to find out about new or replacement white fillings, call us today.

The Benefits of Orthodontics

August 20th, 2015

Orthodontic treatment is recommended for patients who have problems related to the alignment of their teeth. Braces are very common and can have positive impact on the look of the smile as well as offering all kinds of other benefits. If you’re thinking of having treatment for problems such as crooked, misaligned or crowded teeth, here are just some of the advantages of orthodontics:

Improved aesthetics

Crowded, crooked and twisted teeth can make you feel self-conscious about smiling in public, meeting new people or taking to the stage for a presentation. Orthodontic treatment helps to straighten out these aesthetic issues and provide you with a beautiful and healthy looking smile. Braces also tend to improve the overall facial aesthetic, as they correct issues with the bite. The bite is the term used to describe how the upper and lower arches of teeth sit together when your jaw is closed and relaxed.

Increased confidence

Most people would admit to being conscious of their appearance and as our smiles are often our most noticeable feature, it’s no surprise that people who are unhappy with the way their teeth look suffer from a lack of confidence. Correcting misalignment and positioning problems helps to create a more attractive smile and increase confidence and self-esteem.

Clear speech

Your teeth are heavily involved in the formation of letters and words and misalignment can contribute to difficulties pronouncing certain sounds. Corrective treatment helps to improve the clarity of speech. Therefore it can also have a positive effect on confidence, especially at times when you are required to speak in public or read aloud.

Improved oral health

Orthodontic problems can make teeth cleaning more difficult and increase the risk of decay and gum disease. Improving the alignment of the teeth helps to make it easier to brush them thoroughly and reduces your odds of developing oral diseases.

Look Like a Celebrity with Our Porcelain Veneers

August 12th, 2015

If you long for a flawless celebrity smile, we can assure you you’re in the best hands at Liverpool Dental Spa. We have an extensive list of celebrity clients and use the latest and greatest treatments to create stunning smiles. Whether you’re after all-out reality TV star glamour or desire a more subtle Duchess of Cambridge style look, veneers are the perfect treatment for you.

About porcelain veneers

Celebrities are famed for their radiant, bright smiles and with our porcelain veneers you’ll soon be following in the footsteps of your favourite famous people. If you dream of a red carpet worthy smile, porcelain veneers can help you achieve this goal with minimal hassle and just two sessions in the dental chair.

Veneers are wafer-thin, ultra light shells of porcelain designed to sit on top of your teeth to create a beautiful new smile. They can be used to hide a multitude of aesthetic sins, including:

  • chips
  • worn and uneven edges
  • jagged edges
  • staining and discolouration
  • gaps between the teeth
  • misshapen teeth

How does treatment work?

Veneer treatment can usually be completed in two sessions. Before treatment, we invite patients to pop in for an informal consultation so we can go through the treatment process, check your teeth, make sure that you are a good candidate for veneer treatment and answer any questions you have.

We’ll prepare the teeth during the first session and fit the veneers during the second appointment. Preparing the teeth involves gently etching away a very thin layer of the tooth structure to make space for the veneers and facilitate bonding. We then create impressions of the teeth and these are used to make your bespoke veneers.

The impressions are sent away to the dental lab and your veneers will be fabricated by incredibly skilled dental technicians. Once we have received your custom-designed veneers, it’s time to fit them. This involves placing them on your teeth and fixing them firmly using dental adhesive.

We offer a range of incredible veneer treatments including MACveneers, Da Vinci veneers and Lumineers. Call now and let us transform your smile!

Bid Farewell to Bad Breath

August 6th, 2015

If you’re bothered by bad breath, don’t suffer in silence. We are here to help you bid farewell to halitosis for good!

Why do I suffer from bad breath?

There are many different reasons why bad breath occurs. Most of us get bad breath from time to time, usually when we wake up in the morning or after eating strongly flavoured food. However, if you suffer on a persistent basis it could be a sign of an ineffective oral hygiene routine. If you don’t brush your teeth properly, bacteria gather in the mouth and when they feed, they release unpleasant smelling gases. Taking certain types of medication and smoking can also contribute to bad breath.

What can I do?

If you find you have bad breath after eating, keep a food diary to help you identify triggers. If you have bad breath on a recurrent basis, it’s likely that poor oral hygiene is to blame. We offer advice to help you improve oral hygiene at home, as well as providing intensive cleaning treatments to help banish plaque and tartar and give your mouth a lovely fresh feeling. We may recommend a series of sessions with our dental hygienist to begin with and then regular check-ups and hygiene sessions once the symptoms have eased.

Many people feel embarrassed about bad breath, but our experienced dental team is used to dealing with the problem and our staff members are here to help, not judge. If you’re tired of feeling self-conscious or are worried about your oral health, call us today and book a consultation.

All About Restylane Fillers

August 4th, 2015

If you’re like one of the thousands of people out there longing for young, radiant skin, allow us to transform your complexion with Restylane. This non-surgical filler treatment is the perfect remedy for lines and wrinkles.

What exactly is Restylane?

Restylane is a popular anti-ageing filler treatment that’s particularly effective at reducing the visibility of lines and wrinkles. Facial lines form as a result of decreasing stores of collagen in the body and Restylane helps to combat this problem by adding volume to the skin and creating a youthful fullness. Restylane was developed in Sweden and it uses ingredients found naturally in the body to create beautiful, natural looking results. The procedure is non-surgical and the results are temporary.

In addition to combating facial lines, Restylane can also be used to define facial features such as the cheekbones and jaw line, as well as to add volume to the lips for a fuller pout.

What happens when you have Restylane treatment?

Before treatment, all patients have a consultation to give us an opportunity to explain the ins and outs of the procedure, highlight the pros and cons, explain potential risks and give you an idea of what you can expect afterwards. We will also discuss the process and plan your treatment by selecting the areas you wish to treat.

When you come in for your Restylane session, we will treat the desired areas by using a very fine needle to gently inject the filler. We only use a small amount to ensure natural looking results. The process only takes around 15-30 minutes and you shouldn’t feel a lot of discomfort. The results will start to become apparent after three to four days and will last up to nine months. After this point, you are welcome to return for top-up treatment.

If you have any questions or would like to book a consultation, our friendly team will be more than willing to help!
