Get a Fresh New Summer Look with Botox!

July 14th, 2016

If you’ve decided that summer 2016 is going to be your time to shine, look no further than our incredible facial rejuvenation treatments! If you long for beautifully smooth, radiant skin this summer, Botox could be the perfect solution.

What exactly is Botox?

Botox is a diluted form of botulinum toxin type A, which is injected into the skin. It has been used for more than two decades in the UK and is one of the most rapidly growing cosmetic treatments in the world.

Botox is commonly used to soften facial lines and create a more youthful appearance.

How does Botox work?

Botox reduces the visibility of lines and wrinkles by causing the muscles in the face to relax. It does this by reducing muscle contraction, which occurs when nerve signals to the muscles are blocked.

The Botox procedure is very simple. We use a very fine needle to gently inject Botox solution into targeted areas of the skin.

How long do the results last?

The results usually become visible around 2-5 days after treatment and should last between 3 and 6 months. Once the effects start to fade, it is possible to continue treatment to prolong the results.

What are the benefits of Botox?

Many people long for a younger look, especially when the signs of ageing start to become more visible.

Botox offers a non-invasive, convenient and safe solution. With Botox, lines soften and the complexion looks smoother, brighter and more youthful. This treatment can have a really positive impact on confidence as well as appearance. Treatment is convenient as sessions only take around 20 minutes and there is no recovery time required.

Are there any side-effects?

Most people have treatment without any problems at all, but as with all cosmetic procedures, there are risks. It is possible for Botox to cause temporary, localised bruising, redness and swelling. Our experienced Liverpool dental practitioners use the latest techniques teamed with their expertise and skill to produce incredible results with minimal risk.

The Ins and Outs of Sedation Dentistry

July 12th, 2016

Sedation dentistry involves being given a sedative injection before dental treatment to reduce anxiety and fear about having the dental treatment. People have dental phobia that sometimes stems from childhood and can they fear not just needles and drills but the actual dentist too! Sedation is a means of addressing the stress symptom.

Who is a candidate for sedation?

People from all walks of life can request to have sedation dentistry if it is in their best interest to do so. Talk with your dentist to determine if you are a suitable candidate.

Having sedation can help in the following cases:

  • If you want to reduce your awareness of the dental treatment experience.
  • Where you have fears about specific dental procedures, like fillings.
  • If you already suffer mental illness or high levels of anxiety.
  • For unpleasant dental procedures, like having a tooth removed.
  • When other relaxation techniques don’t work, such as meditation or calm music.
  • To relax the throat to combat a sensitive gag reflex

Dental sedation might not be for everyone

Some people take medications for illness and sedation could conflict with their prescribed drugs. A dentist may therefore recommend against dental sedation. In cases where people are refusing dental treatment and even sedation because their fears are so great, it is better to address the cause of the fear first.

Sedation treats the symptoms of dental phobia, which is anxiety stemming from the fears. Having therapy to overcome your fears will help relieve dental phobia symptoms. You can speak with your GP or dentist about what treatments are available.

The Fastest Way to a Brighter Smile

July 6th, 2016

When we smile, we have a zone of front teeth that are visible to others. We may have noticed the condition of others’ teeth when they smile. Some teeth may look bright, naturally white and healthy while others may appear in need of care.

Cleaner and brighter teeth

Daily oral hygiene practice and professional teeth cleaning help to keep teeth clean and the mouth fresh. However, stubborn tooth stains from the foods and beverages we enjoy can’t always be removed through hygiene practices. At Liverpool dental spa, we provide guidance on improving oral health and provide special treatments for tooth stains and discolouration.

Enlighten teeth whitening

We don’t want to avoid the foods we enjoy and may prefer to have teeth whitening treatments for that natural, white glow. Enlighten is highly effective and clinically safe for removing tooth stains caused by tea, coffee, red wine and smoking. Considered a healthier option, Enlighten only contains 6% hydrogen peroxide.

Teeth can be whitened for a beautiful smile both in-clinic and at home.

In-clinic Enlighten and home teeth whitening

Within an hour, our dentists can whiten your teeth to boost confidence and for special occasions. A light activator is used for immediate teeth whitening results. To keep up the desired shade, our dentist custom-makes Enlighten trays for continued home teeth whitening. Alternatively, teeth whitening treatments may be repeated in clinic. The home Enlighten teeth whitening trays are intended for two-week use, giving the best teeth whitening results after a fortnight of use.

Alternative care for tooth discolouration

Teeth may appear stained, but may be discoloured due to nerve damage or genetics. Discoloured teeth may not whiten with in-clinic and home teeth whitening treatments. In such cases, we offer porcelain veneers as the perfect option to mask irregular tooth colour.

Everything You Need to Know About Mouth Guards!

July 4th, 2016

Sports player? Discover the best way to protect your mouth from injury

You might not realise it, but a lot of sporting activities can put your mouth at risk of injury. Sustaining an oral injury is serious business and you might risk losing teeth or even having to have extensive surgery.

There is a simple way to prevent these nightmares and protect your mouth. Meet the standard mouth guard. Now you will find these in most sports shops, but don’t get your pennies out just yet. These stock protectors only offer a very basic level of protection and they’re sometimes not the most comfortable appliances. Yes, they are affordable, but that money will be wasted if they don’t offer you enough protection on the pitch.

Next up, the ‘boil and bite’ mouth guard. You plop these into boiling water and then bite them to make them a good fit for your mouth. Although more comfortable than stock protectors, they still don’t prevent very serious injuries.

If you want ultimate protection against nasty injuries on the field, the best advice is to see your dentist. They will construct a mouth guard from scratch so that it fits your mouth perfectly for optimum comfort. The downside is, these mouth guards are more expensive than those you can buy in stores, but it’s definitely worth it for the excellent protection and comfort qualities.

Talk to your dentist today to find out more about dental mouth guards!

Set Your Teeth Straight with Invisalign

June 28th, 2016

Improve your smile with the treatment everyone’s been talking about from the experienced dentists at Liverpool Dental Spa.

With people’s lifestyles getting busier and more hectic, it’s hard to find the time – and money – to search out a procedure both discreet and effective that will fit in with your daily routine. But the search is over, thanks to the innovative technology of Invisalign. Used by over 32 million people the world over, the Santa Clara manufacturer has helped design the perfect aligners for the perfect smile – and courtesy of its transparent appearance, no one has to know you’re having this treatment other than yourself and your dentist.

Straight teeth don’t just mean a great smile, but great health. Crooked teeth are harder to clean, and are also one of the primary factors of decay and other dental issues. With at least 50 percent of patients experiencing tooth decay whilst wearing fixed braces, the Invisalign technology makes for an easier and more hygienic form of treatment – allowing the user the option to remove their aligners as and when they wish to.

The average timeline of treatment lasts from about six months to just over a year.  After consulting with your orthodontist, impressions of your teeth will be recorded along with X-rays that are then sent off to Align Technology, USA.  Through the use of computer simulation, a series of aligners gradually correcting your teeth into a straight position will be produced. You will then be required to wear them over a prescribed amount of time.  You will need to work through the sets every two weeks and, once your teeth are straightened, will require the use of a retainer. But again this will be clear and removable, ensuring complete flexibility and freedom.

Weak Teeth Made Strong!

June 24th, 2016

Tooth enamel is the strongest substance in the body, but it’s not completely invincible and our teeth can be damaged and broken. If you have an injury, are involved in an accident or have a decayed tooth, we can provide treatment to repair, protect and strengthen your teeth. Our dental crowns are built for style and strength and they will help to reduce the risk of further damage in the future.

About dental crowns

Dental crowns are restorations commonly used when a tooth is broken, damaged through injury or weakened by decay. If the cavity is too large for a filling or the tooth is fractured, it is beneficial to crown it to protect it, make it stronger and decrease the risk of more damage in the future.

Crowning a tooth involves placing a crown over the top of the tooth. For this reason, crowns are sometimes known as caps. With a crown in place, you can enjoy better function, especially when you chew or bite down on food, and a reduced risk of infection caused by decay spreading through the tooth.

Crowns can be made from various different materials and we often recommend ceramic crowns, as they match the shade of the tooth for a seamless look.

The procedure

Treatment involves two sessions. During the first appointment, we will prepare your tooth to remove the decayed tissue and shape it in preparation for the crown. We will then use dental putty to create an impression of the tooth and this will be sent off and used as a template by our highly trained dental technicians. When the new crown is ready, we will place it and secure it using strong dental adhesive.

Crowns are hard-wearing and they should last for around 10 years, provided that they are cared for well.

Transform Your Smile with a Smile Makeover

June 22nd, 2016

Smile makeovers are becoming an increasingly popular treatment simply for their ability to transform your teeth into a radiant smile that you can be proud of. Everyone’s teeth are different and your smile makeover can be tailored for your needs in order to create the perfect smile.

Teeth whitening

Sometimes all your teeth need is a little sprucing up. Teeth whitening treatment can make your smile look brighter and healthier in a matter of weeks. You can opt to have your treatment carried out by a dentist or use a home treatment kit, which involves using a dental tray filled with brightening gel that fits around your teeth and leaves your teeth up to ten shades brighter than before.

Veneers

Your teeth may have taken more of a battering and there may be some unwanted chips or cracks that you want covering up. Porcelain veneers are perfect for this job because they are thin shells of porcelain that match the colour of your original teeth. The veneers are glued to the front of your original teeth to hide any imperfections, leaving you with a brand new smile.

Dentures

Dentures are renowned for being troublesome as they may take ages to fix and can become wobbly. Dental implants are helping combat these problems and involve screwing a titanium screw into your jaw to act as the root for your prosthetic tooth. This ensures minimal movement as the tooth is held in place. Dental bridges are also available. These sit on either side of the gap and use a metal bridge to hold the denture in place.

Fillings and bonding

White fillings are now used instead of amalgam fillings because they are safer and give a better appearance. You can have your old fillings replaced with white fillings to create a more natural smile. Bonding can also be used to fill in any unwanted gaps between your teeth. If you are interested in having a smile makeover, contact our friendly team at Liverpool Dental Spa.

The Ultimate Cleaning Experience

June 20th, 2016

Nothing feels better than smooth, clean teeth and what better way to celebrate the first day of summer than with a clean bill of oral health? We encourage our patients to maintain good oral hygiene at home, but nothing beats the feeling of an intensive cleaning treatment. Our expert hygienists will give your smile a healthy glow and banish harmful bacteria to help you lower the risk of decay and gum disease.

What do hygienists do?

Dental hygienists are experts in oral hygiene. They provide a range of hygiene and preventative treatments, which help to lower the risk of oral diseases and keep the teeth looking strong, healthy and shiny.

Our dental hygienists play a very important role in the treatment of gum disease, but a visit to the hygienist can be beneficial for all patients – even those with good oral health! For patients who have a high risk of gum disease and those who have been diagnosed with severe gum disease, regular hygiene sessions can help to prevent the condition from getting worse.

Hygiene treatments

Our hygienists provide a range of services for patients of all ages, including preventative treatments, cleaning treatments such as scale and polish and gum disease management. Our hygienists are also available to offer advice about oral hygiene and teeth cleaning and to help with issues such as healthy eating and giving up or cutting down on smoking.

Why is dental hygiene so important?

Good dental hygiene is important for keeping your teeth and gums healthy, but it also plays a role in maintaining good general health. A number of studies have now suggested a connection between oral and general health and gum disease has been found to increase the risk of general health conditions, including strokes and heart disease, as bacteria from the mouth is able to travel through the bloodstream, contributing to harmful effects in other areas of the body.

Don’t Let Dental Phobia Ruin Your Life

June 16th, 2016

It might be one of the most important health appointments you might have to go to in the foreseeable future, as the quality of your own teeth might have suffered for one reason of the other. Making regular dental appointments every one to two years should be at the top of every person’s list of priorities. However, for some people, the reason why these appointments aren’t made is not because they have forgotten, but that they have a phobia of the dentist and this consequently affects their ability to attend to matters of oral health problems.

The many reasons behind having a dental phobia

One of the main reasons behind a person having a dental phobia is something that happened to them during their childhood. An unforgiving dentist who did not take into consideration the fears their young patient held could well have exacerbated since then and when they reach adulthood, they might have chosen to ignore the constant calls from their dentist surgery as their parents were no longer the ones to force them to the dentist.

A particular horrifically carried out form of treatment when a person was a child or adult could be another reason why they have a dental phobia. The time it took for them to recover from their dental operation could have left the person mentally scarred and these scars need time to heel. Or, the person might have had a straightforward dental operation, such as them needing several teeth extracted. This may be a common treatment for the dentist to perform, but for the patient it is not clear-cut and this harrowing experience could have put a mental toll on the person themselves.

Liverpool Dental Spa understands your fears

Our Liverpool dental professionals are extremely understanding and they know that a trip to the dentist might take a lot of bravery for the person to do this. Contacting us will enable you to be seen by an understanding person who will be able to cater your dental needs around your worries.
