5 Amazing Facts About CEREC

November 10th, 2016

Dentistry is a truly amazing field, which is advancing and evolving all the time. We’re proud to invest in incredible dental technology to bring our clients the best treatments out there. One of our most innovative treatments is same-day CEREC restorations. If you’re not familiar with CEREC, here are five amazing facts.

  1. CEREC enables us to offer same-day restorative treatment: usually, it takes around two weeks and separate treatment sessions to provide crown or veneer treatment. With CEREC, we can offer same-day treatment. CEREC takes care of every aspect of restorative treatment for us. We can design, fabricate and fit the new restoration in a single day.
  2. CEREC can be used to make bespoke veneers, inlays and onlays and crowns: CEREC is a versatile piece of kit, which enables us to make an array of different restorations. This means that we can offer same-day treatment to patients with varied restorative needs.
  3. CEREC enables us to do everything on-site: usually, when you need a new crown, for example, we create a putty mould, which is sent away to the laboratory. With CEREC, we do everything on-site.
  4. CEREC uses photographic images to form customised restorations: many people dislike the feel of dental putty in their mouth, and creating moulds can be an unpleasant and messy experience. With CEREC, we don’t need to do this. We can create new restoration using photographic images. CEREC converts these images into 3D templates, which are sent to the milling machine.
  5. CEREC improves accuracy: with putty impressions there’s always a marginal risk of inaccuracy. CEREC eliminates this and is therefore a more accurate way of creating custom-made restorations.

Bridge the Gap Towards a New Smile

November 8th, 2016

If you have missing teeth, replacing them can bring all kinds of benefits. A dental bridge can offer a solution to patients with a single missing tooth or a number of gaps in the smile. If you’ve lost a tooth, why not call and find out more now?

About dental bridges

Dental bridges are an effective solution for missing teeth. They aim to bridge the gap between remaining teeth when natural teeth have been lost as a result of decay, gum disease or accidental injury. There are various types of dental bridge, but the most commonly used device is a traditional fixed bridge. This restoration consists of a pontic, a false tooth, which is fused to a crown on either side.

Dental bridges can be made from an array of different materials. Porcelain is a popular choice, as it matches the natural tooth colour.

How is a bridge fitted?

We can usually fit a bridge over the course of two appointments. During the first session, we’ll create a mould, which will be used to create your bespoke bridge. We send the mould away, and highly-skilled dental technicians create your bridge. When the bridge is ready, we can then place it. Once it’s in the right position, we will secure it firmly.

How long should a bridge last?

Bridges can last up to fifteen years if they are looked after properly. Once your bridge has been fitted, you should care for it as you do your natural teeth. When you have a check-up, we will have a good look at the bridge to make sure everything is as it should be.

Is a bridge the best option for me?

Dental bridges are not the only tooth replacement treatment we offer; we also provide custom-made dentures and dental implants. If you have missing teeth, we will go through all the treatment options with you and discuss the pros and cons of each. You can ask as many questions as you like, and hopefully, we’ll be able to help you decide which treatment is best for you.

Here’s Why You Don’t Need to Worry About Fillings Anymore!

November 4th, 2016

If you have a cavity, there’s no need to worry. We have extensive experience in fitting fillings, and we can restore your tooth without impacting on your beautiful smile. If you need a new filling, or you’re thinking about replacing an old filling, you’re in safe hands at Liverpool Implant & Aesthetic Dental Spa.

What exactly are fillings, and why would I need one?

Fillings are small restorations, which are used to seal and fill cavities. When the tooth enamel becomes weak, the tooth is vulnerable to harmful bacteria. These bacteria release powerful acids, which erode the enamel and cause holes, known as cavities, to develop. If cavities are left, there’s a risk of infection spreading through the tooth. You may also find that you experience dental pain and increased sensitivity. Fillings help to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria through the tooth and they also make the teeth stronger.

In the past, mercury amalgam was often used to fill teeth, especially the molars. Today, most people choose to have white fillings. White fillings are made from a combination of dental composite, resins and glass ionmers. They restore the teeth without impacting on its aesthetic. This means that you won’t be able to see the filling.

What’s so good about white fillings?

Most people prefer to have white fillings because they blend seamlessly with the rest of the tooth. This means that you can smile without worrying about showing off unsightly metal fillings. White fillings are also safer and more environmentally friendly. Although mercury fillings are still approved for use in the UK, there are safety concerns and these fillings have been banned in some countries. If you have amalgam fillings and you’d like to replace them with new white fillings, we will happily do this for you. All you need to do is give us a call and make an appointment.

White fillings don’t last forever, but they should last around five years if they are well cared for. We will check your fillings and any crowns or bridgework every time you have a routine check-up.

Chipped Tooth? Here’s What You Need!

November 2nd, 2016

White smileEven the strongest, healthiest teeth can fall foul to accidents and injuries. Tooth enamel is incredibly strong, but chips are fairly common. Even a minor chip can have a significant impact on the look of your smile and your confidence. Thankfully, if you’re worried about chips, we can help. Sometimes, clients opt for veneers for chips, especially if they have additional problems, such as staining. But there is an alternative. Allow us to introduce you to cosmetic bonding.

Everything you need to know about cosmetic bonding

Cosmetic bonding, also known as composite bonding, is a very simple but very effective dental procedure, which has incredible aesthetic benefits for your smile. This treatment involves using dental composite, a tooth-coloured material, to patch up work edges, alter the shape of individual teeth, and repair chips.

Composite bonding is a simpler, faster and more affordable option than dental veneers. It can be completed in a single session, and there’s absolutely no pain involved.

If you choose to have bonding, your dentist will go through the procedure with you. Before they begin, they will select the shade of composite that is closest to your natural tooth colour. They will then apply the composite, which looks and feels like dental putty, and shape it. Your dentist will mould the composite to carry out the desired changes, using their creativity and practical skills to achieve amazing results. The composite is then hardened using a curing light. Once the composite has set, your dentist will make any final adjustments to ensure a flawless finish.

Is bonding the right treatment for me?

Many of us are conscious about the appearance of our smiles. If you have minor imperfections, we can make your smile look more attractive and boost your confidence by using simple, painless techniques like composite bonding. This treatment is suitable for those with chips, worn and uneven teeth, small gaps between the teeth and misshapen teeth. To find out more, give us a call today!

Why You Should Choose Veneers to Transform Your Smile

October 26th, 2016

Veneers are designed to fit over your teeth to correct any number of problems and improve your smile. They are usually made from materials such as porcelain, ceramic or resin, mimicking the shades of real teeth for a natural appearance.

They are particularly useful in treating multiple imperfections not easily rectified by other techniques. For instance, teeth chipped in an accident or deteriorating due to decay can be made to look symmetrical and perfect again, while misshapen or peculiarly sized teeth can also be covered effectively. Gaps left by smaller teeth are another tricky problem hidden by veneers, as are holes and other irregularities in the teeth. The treatment is purely cosmetic, so if a patient with stained or crooked teeth chooses veneers, the technique conceals rather than cures the problem.

The fitting process for veneers is very quick, with an instant effect not offered by orthodontic treatments. They differ from crowns in that veneers mostly require far less tampering with the teeth underneath. The dentist will take an impression of your teeth and use this to fashion the veneers. Then the veneers are glued strongly over the affected teeth, with a light beam strengthening the bond.

The standard porcelain veneers are made from thin material that mimics the properties of regular teeth. This means that light hitting the veneers produces a similar effect to real teeth.  They are manufactured in a dental laboratory and take longer to produce than composite alternatives, but the material is stronger, difficult to stain, and can last between 10 and 15 years.

Composite veneers are made from composite resin, a tooth-coloured filling material without the same sense of depth as porcelain veneers. The treatment is cheaper and speedier to produce. Greater portions of the underlying teeth will need to be removed to accommodate the veneers than with the porcelain method.
