What are implant retained dentures?
Implant retained dentures are the most effective denture method. Dental implants are inserted into the roots of missing teeth where they will heal with the jawbone-this provides an incredibly stable foundation for the dentures. After the implants are placed the dentures can then be securely fixed on to the top f the titanium implants providing patients with a very natural, strong result.
What happens during treatment?
Whilst traditional dentures would rely on the suction from the gums, implant retained dentures are fully supported by the dental implants and work with both full and partial dentures.
The procedure;
- We cut into the gum and drill into the jawbone area
- We then place the implants into the holes and stitch the gums so that they can then heal
- After a period of time when the gums have fully healed and the implants have fused with the jawbone we will add the dentures
- After this patients are free to continue their normal lives eating and drinking what ever they like
We use local anaesthetic so that treatment is comfortable and patients do not feel pain.
