Perfect Clear Braces in Liverpool for Discreet Orthodontic Treatment

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

Problems such as crooked teeth, gaps between teeth or teeth that stick out are not at all uncommon, but they can still cause lack of confidence. However, the solution to such problems, wearing orthodontic braces, can seem just as embarrassing to some people as the original concern. Help is at hand though at Liverpool Dental Implant and Aesthetic Spa in Liverpool with the innovative new Perfect Clear braces, for discreet orthodontic treatment.

What is Perfect Clear?

The Perfect Clear system involves the use of custom-made ‘invisible’ aligners that fit over the teeth. After having taken impressions of your teeth, aligners will be made to fit your specific tooth and mouth shape, to help to encourage your teeth into the correct position using unique K positioners. The aligner looks like a clear plastic mould which sits on top of the teeth, and as your teeth gradually change position, you will be given different aligners to help continue treatment.

Why is Perfect Clear preferable to other treatments?

The Perfect Clear braces are, as the name suggests, clear, and so cannot be seen unless you look very closely. This means that it is possible to correct cosmetic or orthodontic issues with teeth without the need for obvious, traditional ‘train-track’ braces or cumbersome retainers. The Perfect Clear system is thus perfect for people who are already self-conscious about their teeth, and may feel that wearing a brace would cause further embarrassment. In addition, the Perfect Clear braces are removable, meaning that there is far less possibility of bad oral health than with other types of brace, as they are very easy to clean: simply remove the aligners and rinse them to ensure that food particles do not build up in them. They can also be removed for eating, to make this even easier. Perfect Clear braces will allow you to have better oral health, improved bite function and better jaw alignment, without the need for any obviously visible orthodontic treatment.

Helping Patients in Central Liverpool Achieve Their Perfect Smile with Gummy Smile Treatment

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

It’s a shame for anyone to feel embarrassed about the appearance of their mouth, as a lack of confidence like this can mean that you feel bad about smiling at all. One common reason that people may feel less confident about their mouth is a ‘gummy smile’, when the gums appear too large and teeth too small. Thankfully, help is at hand from Liverpool Dental Implant and Aesthetic Spa in Central Liverpool.

What is a ‘gummy smile’?

This occurs when there is a larger percentage of gum tissue than usual covering someone’s teeth. It is usually most pronounced on the front teeth, which are the teeth that other people see the most, although it can affect other, more out-of-sight teeth as well. The most common reason for a ‘gummy smile’ is a simple matter of genetics, but sometimes it can be linked to other health issues or the side effects of some medication for high blood pressure. By and large, a ‘gummy smile’ is not a health risk per se, but it does affect a person’s appearance, and thus it can lead to many people feeling unconfident, which can in turn cause emotional suffering. However, it can be easily treated, using a procedure known as gum contouring.

What does gum contouring involve?

Gum contouring is a procedure to remove excess gum tissue, thus making the teeth appear longer and improving the overall appearance of the smile. The process is relatively quick and simple. Firstly, a local anaesthetic is administered to the area to be treated. Then, a scalpel or a laser is used to remove some of the excess gum from around the front teeth. In addition to removing tissue, your dentist will reshape the gum slightly, ensuring a better final appearance. The healing after the treatment is relatively quick as well.

Patients in Central Liverpool are Happy with Their Beautiful Smiles Using Teeth and Gum Contouring Treatments

Monday, June 25th, 2012

The shape of the biting edge of the teeth and positioning of the gums around them can be very important to the symmetry of a smile.

If the bottom of the teeth are of an uneven length, or the gums hang too low over the teeth then a smile can appear less and perfect.

However, patients with biting edge and gum length problems can find the solution they need at Liverpool Dental Implant and Aesthetic with tooth and gum contouring.

What is tooth contouring?

Tooth contouring involves reshaping the bottom of the teeth to bring symmetry to the smile. Some of the teeth may be tooth long, or have a rough or slightly chipped biting edge, which are throwing off the balance of your smile.

This can be easily corrected, however, using tooth-reshaping techniques, which involve removing a small amount of tooth material to create a more in line smile.

What is gum contouring?

When the gums hang low over the tops of the teeth they can make a smile appear small, which may cause feelings of discomfort and embarrassment. Those who worry about their ‘gummy smiles’ needn’t worry about them much longer thought, as we offer gum contouring to help you review your beautiful teeth and smile.

Gum contouring involves cutting away the excess gum tissue that is covering your gums to reveal your complete smile. This will bring a greater sense of clarity and balance to the appearance of your smile and will show off your beautiful teeth.

If you would like any more information about what is involved in tooth reshaping and gum contouring treatments please contact the practice today. We serve people throughout Central Liverpool and beyond and can help you achieve the smile you always wanted.

The Effective Smile Transformation of Da Vinci Veneers for Patients in Central Liverpool

Monday, June 4th, 2012

If you’re looking for a way to improve your smile then Veneers are a great way to help restore any damaged, crooked or discolored teeth. But instead of going for the traditional normal veneers why not try Da Vinci Veneers, which are offered here at Liverpool Dental Implants and Aesthetics Spa.

What are Da Vinci Veneers?

Da Vinci Veneers come all the way from across the pond in California, and are made from porcelain to provide patients from Central Liverpool and throughout the UK with the beautiful smile regularly seen on American television shows.

Porcelain veneers help repair any crooked, gapped or chipped teeth you may have to help regenerate and bring your smile back to its former glory.  Da Vinci veneers use a thin yet durable piece of porcelain, which is attached to the patient’s tooth. The colour of the veneer can be matched to your own natural teeth and once the veneer has hardened it will look like you never had a problem in the first place.

How are da Vinci Veneers fitted?

The treatment process for the Da Vinci Veneers starts with some mild tooth preparation, involving buffing the front of the tooth to make room for the new veneer that will be placed over the existing tooth. Once this is done molds will be taken of your teeth in order for your Da Vinci Veneers to be created at the Da Vinci lab.

Once these veneers have been created they will be placed onto the teeth using an adhesive to fit them into place. Once this has been done and everyone is satisfied the veneer will be fixed firmly into place with a permanent dental cement, to give you that perfect smile.

If you are interested in any more information or advice on the best dental implants for you, please contact the practice to arrange a consultation- we will be happy to help.

Treating the Effects of Liverpool Patients’ Chipped and Worn Teeth with Veneers, Cosmetic Bonding and Crowns

Friday, May 25th, 2012

Daily wear and tear, teeth grinding and a diet high in sugar can all reek havoc on the strength of your teeth and many people will suffer some form of chipping or cracking in their lifetime.

However, at Liverpool Dental Implant and Aesthetic we have numerous treatment options to restore the smile of our patients in Liverpool and beyond.

What treatment can I used to repair my broken teeth?

There are numerous treatments we can use for the correction of dental damage, which include:

  • Cosmetic bonding-Cosmetic bonding is the cheapest option for restoring damaged teeth and involves using tooth coloured resin material to fill in the missing portion of the tooth. This material is moulded and polished into shape, however, it is only suitable for small tooth chips and cracks and isn’t as durable as other methods.
  • Veneers-veneers are made of thin shells of porcelain, which are bonded to the front of your teeth to restore any missing tooth enamel. Veneers are more expensive that cosmetic bonding, but they look more like your natural teeth and last a lot longer.
  • Crowns-crowns are used when the tooth is very damaged and requires strengthening as well as aesthetic treatment. Crowns are often fitted after root canal treatments, to bolster the injured tooth.

How do I prevent my tooth from becoming chipped?

There are a number of ways to stop potential chipping and fracturing, which include:

  • Brushing your teeth every night, to prevent the build-up of plaque and bacteria, which eat away at the dental enamel.
  • Lowering the quantity of sugar consumed throughout the day. This may involve eating a sweet treat along with a meal, which will cut down on the number of exposures to acidic food your teeth have to undergo.
  • When drinking sugary drinks such as pop, or acidic drinks like orange juice, use a straw, which will direct the liquid to the back of your mouth.
  • When eating acidic or sugary food eat a small cube of cheese, which will neutralise the affect of the acid in your mouth.
  • Try not to bite into anything hard, or try to remove things with your teeth, like bottle tops or clothing tags.

Liverpool Dental Patients can Receive Their Crowns, Veneers, Onlays and Inlays in Just One Day with Cerec Technology

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Whenever you require a dental restoration such as a crown, veneer, inlay or onlay you usually have to wait several weeks for your personal restoration to arrive. After this you must return to the practice for a second set of injections to have your treatment.

However, at Liverpool Dental Implant and Aesthetic we use Cerec technology, which allows us to create high quality dental restorations in-practice. This cuts down the number of visits you need to make to the practice and also allows you to finalise the end results.

How does Cerec treatment work?

First you tooth is prepared for the inlay, onlay, crown or veneer, after which 3D images are taken of your teeth and mouth. These are a great deal more accurate than dental putty and also a lot less messy! The images are then fed into the computer, after which your personal restoration will be created from a pure block of ceramic.

It usually only takes 30 minutes to create a Cerec restoration, which is an awful lot faster than the usual 2 weeks it takes more most other practices! Once this has been created it will be fitted into place, after checking the colour and fit are perfect.

What are the main benefits of Cerec restorations?

  • You will only require one visit, meaning you won’t have to take more time off work and you will only need to have one injection.
  • You can oversee the work and ask for changes if you are not happy with the first restoration made. Correcting any problems will be easy, as all work is done on-site and will not have to be sent back to any outside laboratories.
  • You will not have to wait for your brand new, beautiful smile, with all treatment completed on the same day.

For patients in Liverpool interested in the Cerec treatment please call the practice today for more information.

Lumineers the Long-Lasting Tooth Veneer for Patients in Liverpool

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

There are numerous brands of veneers available from cosmetic dental practices, but there are only a select few that offer both an outstanding transformation and long-lasting results.

What is different about Lumineers?

Lumineers are incredibly thin veneers, often referred to as the ‘contact lenses’ of the veneer world. However, these veneers are not only small they are incredibly strong, using the finest materials and the most advanced techniques to create a restoration that looks exactly like a natural tooth that can last 20 years or more.

Lumineers also require very little in the way of tooth restoration, meaning the natural tooth structure underneath will be maintained. Usually when fitting a veneer a large portion of the tooth must be shaved away, which can create a difficult situation if you want to remove your veneers or change them. With Lumineers this isn’t a problem and the treatment is completely reversible.

What can Lumineers treat?

Lumineers are an almost instant treatment for a number of cosmetic problems including:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Stained teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Crooked teeth

How are Lumineers fitted?

Lumineers only require two visits:

1)   You are examined by a dentist who will tell you if you are suitable for Lumineers. You will then have impressions taken of your teeth and will decide your ideal tooth shade. This information will then be sent to the specialist dental lab, who will create you new teeth.

2)   Your Lumineers are created and you return to the practice and have your Lumineers fitted.

Lumineers are only available from a small number of UK practices who are registered with the Cerinate Smile Design Studio. Liverpool Implant and Aesthetic Dental Spa are one such UK practice, able to provide this service for all their patients who are suitable for Lumineers.

Celebrate St George’s Day in Liverpool with a Straighter, Brighter Smile with Porcelain Veneers

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

The 23rd of April is not just St. George’s day, it also the birthday (and confirmed day of death) of one William Shakespeare: Arguably the greatest writer in the English language and the bane of many a student’s schooldays. Whether you decide to spend the day reciting King Lear among friends or, more likely, laughing with them at the pub, you will be using that mouth quite a bit, and it’s quite hard to feel “St. George inspire us with the spleen of fiery dragons” when you’re feeling self-conscious about your smile…

What are dental veneers?

Often viewed as the mouth’s equivalent of false nails, dental veneers are wafer thin shells of material, which are bonded to the front of the teeth and can offer a considerable amount of cosmetic relief for people suffering with certain aesthetic ailments, such as: Broken or damaged teeth, gaps between teeth and, to an extent, crooked teeth. Veneers come in two forms:  Porcelain and composite. Composite veneers are cheaper than their porcelain counterparts, but Porcelain veneers are more effective in every other respect and can last five or even ten times longer than composites, meaning they often work out cheaper in the long run.

Procedural info

The success of porcelain veneers has led to a popular idea of ‘swish walk-in dental clinics’ providing a perfect pearly white smile in the span of a lunchtime break. Although a few clinics have invested in ‘CEREC’ technology which allows for such swift production, most procedures will require at least two visits. A typical procedure would require an initial consultation followed by a mild reshaping your teeth in preparation for the veneers (a small amount would be shaved off, but just enough to accommodate the veneers). A mould would then be taken of your teeth which would be used to produce the veneers. These would then be fitted at a subsequent session.

Consultation

There are many different brands of veneer, so, if you’re interested, book an appointment and we can start work on a dental treatment plan for you.

Celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday in Liverpool with a Royally White Smile

Friday, April 20th, 2012

The Queen’s birthday and her diamond jubilee are nearly upon us, so we can perhaps expect, and maybe even excuse, a little national pride. If the festivities happen to take you through Britain’s colourful culinary history, or even just lead to an increased tea intake, then your teeth might pick up a few celebratory stains… and you wouldn’t want less than pearly whites for the Queen, would you?

Vital or non-vital?

For anyone suffering from less than pearly whites, there are essentially two types of procedure available to you: Vital and non-vital. Vital bleaching is used when staining and discolouration has occurred solely on the enamel of the tooth. The treatment can cause hypersensitivity and gum irritation, but these side-effects will only be temporary. Non-vital whitening is for blemished teeth that have undergone root canal surgery (root canal treatments can darken over time).  Non-vital treatment is sometimes called ‘inside/outside whitening’ as the cleaning formulation is placed inside the tooth and it cleans from the inside out!

Home or away?

Non –vital whitening must be performed in the clinic, but vital whitening can be done at home. Having the procedure performed at the practice will allow your dentist to use a more powerful whitening formula and treatment will usually last between 30 and 90 minutes. Completion of the treatment will require between one and three visits. The home procedure will require your dentist to make a mouthpiece from impressions of your upper and lower teeth.  Once home, you would be required to fill the mouthpiece with the whitening formula provided and wear it for several hours a day. Many people achieve their desired degree of whitening after a week or two, but some may be required to wear the mouthpiece for a month or longer.

Come talk to us

There are a myriad of tooth whitening products available and it is best to ensure that the product and procedure suit the patient. So, before choosing a product or procedure, make sure to book a consultation with a Liverpool cosmetic dentist!

Liverpool Smiles Damaged by Chips and Cracks can be Easily Treated with Cosmetic Bonding

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Ultimately, most things wear down. Even if you never left home, chances are your teeth would pick up a few nicks, or at least a few stains, eventually. For patients in Liverpool who need less a ‘repair’ and more ‘a little spruce up’ dentally, there is cosmetic bonding. In essence, cosmetic bonding is simply the application of a composite paste-like material to the teeth, and it can fix a multitude of minor complaints: Damaged or discoloured teeth can be colour-matched to those surrounding them and cracks, gaps and even small cavities can be filled in.

The procedure

On the whole, cosmetic bonding procedures will only require a single trip to the dentist’s and most won’t even require an anaesthetic. Following either the application or avoidance of an anaesthetic, the tooth where the composite is to be applied will be thoroughly cleaned (as the composite requires a clean surface with which to bond). The dentist will find the perfect shade of composite material to match the rest of your teeth and will then etch the surface of the tooth, which will help the composite to bond with the tooth. The composite is then applied to the tooth and the tooth’s surface is exposed to a bonding light, which will harden the composite. This process is often repeated forming several small layers, until the perfect shape and effect has been reached. The dentist will then add a few finishing touches to help shape the tooth.

Finale

The cosmetic material isn’t as strong as other materials, such as porcelain, but it is a more cost effective option and can be very successful if you only have one or two teeth that require correcting. Cosmetic bonding is also very easy to replace if you need extra work, but making use of a good oral hygiene routine and refraining from using your teeth for unnecessary and potentially damaging tasks, such as opening cans or packaging, will help maintain your cosmetic bonding treatment.
